I'm looking at a V6 just because I'm driving more and need something decent on gas. I live in northern IN so we get a decent amount of snow. With a good set of tires will these cars be decent during the winter? And since the LGXs have been out a while, anything to look out for in higher mileage cars. From what I've read these are a lot better than previous 3.6s.
Thanks in advance, I have searched but with mixed answers.
Seeing as most of these guys don't live in the snow region you and I do.

Even with snow tires, the car is ok at best. Granted the 6 isn't as strong as my SS, so you may do better than I would in snow. But I have snow tires on my car for winter, and if there's an inch of snow I ain't going anywhere. Especially in situations with inclined traffic lights or stop signs.

To everyone else I used to live in Huntington, IN (North of Ft. Wayne) near where the OP does, and when he says they get snow, he's not talking 1-6 inches, he's talking 12-20+ inches.

No Camaro is going to make it through 12-20" of unplowed snow, obviously. But neither is any other car: the limitation there is going to be ground clearance between the tires. I live in St. Louis, and I have driven my SS 1LE in 3" of unplowed snow multiple times on Conti DWS tires. It's fine, and the Snow/Ice mode does make it easier. On legit snow tires, there just shouldn't be a traction issue, although again the lack of any form of LSD isn't ideal.

I do chains and phasers on the V6 all the time (mostly cadillacs) its a 3 chain setup that runs short teeth on the gears. The basic design has been around since 2006 so they have worked some kinks out over the generations. Aftermarket is definitely very lacking and not rewarding. The amount needed to really make any improvements would be so expensive that you might as well just buy a v8.
Now the LTG... with a tune you can be over the v6 hp. Its forged rods, pistons, and crank from the factory. The way the power kinda rolls in gives you a cushion to maintain traction coming out of the hole and then it kinda ramps up quickly. On the failure side of those ive seen a lot of the vacuum pumps fail (to the point that i completely deleted mine) . The pcv hose system will crack but ideally you go to a catch can that replaces the hoses.

Either way will be good. Just price the whole project before you start. Build the plan and follow it
I have the LTG in my camaro and its fun for the price I paid, but to the OP it does not have forged rods and pistons. If you intend to mod the LTG to get V8 power levels you will need to replace these with forged pieces.

Just turned 80,000 kms (50K miles) on my LGX. Other than the transmission shudder, which was fixed under warranty with the flush: Mobil 1 fluid replacing OEM Dexron VI, the only unscheduled repair was thermostat stuck open at 48K miles. Had the coolant temp sensor replaced at the same time since it's almost right next to it.

You'll need top of the line snow tires for normal winter driving, Michelin X-Ice or Bridgestone Blizzak, but don't bother with "performance" snow tires...with no LSD and low ground clearance, the car isn't up to the performance those much more expensive tires can deliver. And those tire are optimized for cold, dry roads. On snow-covered roads, the car will fishtail regardless of tires, unless trans is in snow/ice mode, which totally attenuates the throttle response, and the performance, as it should.

I do drive mine in winter, but only if roads are dry and clear, easy to do with a bit of planning, so the all seasons (Pirelli PZero Nero), stay on year round. Did have the snows on for the first couple of years, but not since.
