LT2 manifold and foam
Working on installing the LT2 intake manifold and I have questions regarding the foam. I cut the back portion like I’ve seen in videos and on here, but when I test fit the manifold won’t sit flush. Is the foam meant to compress a little bit when the manifold gets tightened down? This is a GPI modified manifold but I also shaved in between the runners thinking it would help with the foam clearance.

Did you cut the supports off the bottom of the intake?

Are you talking about the rear bottom? Yes it was shaved by GPI.

Have you tried fitment without the foam in place?
If it sits normally then i would say slap the foam in and compress it with the intake |

Just tried fitment without the foam and it's perfect. Really want to keep the foam though. Here is a pic of how I cut the foam and the bottom of the intake. Any suggestions are appreciated!

When I was researching this mod, it was my understanding that you lose the foam. I'm not aware of anyone that retained it.

I got it installed! Ended up shaving in between the ports more and it fits well with the foam.

did you take a pic of the 'shaving between the ports' that worked?

Unfortunately I didn’t take pics of my final trimming but here is a pic of what I’m referring to. Take the foam off the engine and put it on the intake manifold and you’ll see why it makes sense to shave these areas.

I would be interested to hear your feedback on performance gains with this swap.

I didn't get the LT2- it hadn't come out yet, so I sprung for the MSD and this issue of "foam or no foam" came up. There didn't seem to be a definitive answer. The foam may diminish the sound of our direct injection system and other sounds some people don't like but it doesn't bother me. O/W it looks to me likely to retain heat and do away with any chance of cooler air passing under/around the IM.
So, I left mine off and have had no regrets about it. To the best of my knowledge none of those who chose "no foam" have had any adverse effect.
