Thats a part of it for sure. Another part is not sending these dirtbags to prison for 10 years when they get caught. We've all heard the stories where these thieves get little to no time and there's instances where the police have to be shamed into recovering the cars when the owner knows exactly where they are!!!

Decades ago, before chipped keys and key fobs, you could hot wire cars or break the side of the steering column and start them with ease. Back then, we blamed the criminals instead of the owners for leaving their cars outside or the manufacturers for not making them harder to steal.

Now, we have people who discourage and shame owners from defending their own property!

This line of thinking leads to a neverending arms race whose costs are borne by innocent customers, and completely dismisses the undeniable fact that deterrents have been eroding.

We want to live in a world where one can use their property without being paranoid about security. Harsher deterrents and penalties help with that, no question about it, several examples in the world.

There is a balance, of course, flaying car thieves alive and chopping their limbs off one by one in public would be excessive, but so is letting them out on $400 bonds or giving them suspended sentences; the truth is somewhere between these, but current trends indicate that these days we need a lot of hardening, not pampering and grandstanding about criminals' rights.

Cleveland division of police cut their auto theft department down to exactly ONE officer on assignment 20 years ago. For the entire city. Part of city cuts by the then-mayor eliminating 500 police from the city payroll for budget cuts and they haven’t recovered since.

And Cleveland is not alone. Most liberally managed big cities have limited police manpower. Whereas your suburbs and rural cities/counties have the budget and manpower to have decent and effective police security.

They also tend to not be liberal cities.

That is a 1.83% chance of getting stolen by my math. Thank you for putting some numbers on it!

I am not sure what you are arguing, but by the numbers you are posting, that equates to a 1.83% chance in my math book. That is pretty high!

Very sad indeed... the art of vehicle theft has never been more sophisticated. It's a shame that the OEM's don't take this more serious... bit like so many other shortcomings, it's up to the aftermarket to fix the issues.

I am all for bringing back public hangings in the town square for theft of any kind. Where I that petition booth at? HAHA

Security costs a bit more to have these features like keyless entry not implemented by the cheapest option gm can find (probably from some third party in china). This is the same company that killed a bunch of people to save pennies on a key cylinder.
Agree with you fully.
