I guess that explains why the quote I just got through NCM for collector car insurance was 50% higher than what I'm currently paying. :(

All I'm hearing is $$$$$$ here comes another increase on my insurance policy. And I should purchase a couple extra driver windows plus extra tint? Luckily mine is almost never left alone outside and is only a nice day or track day fun toy. It also has some custom "good luck, you will need a tow truck to take it" mods I have done to it.

This car theft problem wont stop until the perps are treated like horse thieves were 150 years ago. In other words, it will only get worse. If you drive a ZL1, consider where you drive it and get a concealed carry license.

They put the damn OBD port RIGHT next to the drivers door….. all you need to do is break the window, reach down to plug in and you can take over everything and disable the security system.

I mean, GM the LEAST you could have done was put the OBD port by the center console behind the HVAC ducts to make it a bit of a stretch to get to it if you break into the window without opening the door

Hindsight is 20/20, the OBD port is in the same approximate location on practically all cars... even placed under the steering column it could be reached. The HVAC control area is already crowded, imagine an ugly a** OBD-II connector in sight there.

The shocking thing is that Camaro is on top of the list with such a low amount of sales. Are we talking like you have a 1% chance of getting your car stolen? That is pretty high! For ZL1 it might be 10%!

It's how many whole vehicle claims as a percentage of insured units, not volume of thefts.

According to the IIHS report the media stories are based on, Camaro thefts as a whole peaked in March 2024 at 18.3 claims per 1,000 insured vehicle years. "(One insured vehicle year equals one vehicle insured for one year, two vehicles insured for six months, and so forth.)

Nice troll. Instead though, you can blame gm for not taking security seriously. Camaro's are being stolen because it's super easy and requires little effort. Not because there are more car thieves getting pampered in the world. Cities tend to have a higher rate of theft simply because there's more opportunity due to there being more cars in a given area, and more frequently they are tucked away in garages or with more people around (on the street) to not be suspicious as they record the radio signals your fob uses.

Security costs a bit more to have these features like keyless entry not implemented by the cheapest option gm can find (probably from some third party in china). This is the same company that killed a bunch of people to save pennies on a key cylinder.
