I don’t think he is. It’s common knowledge that sniffer tests are for 1995 and older vehicles (pre obd2). That being said a quick search shows California does the sniffer test up to and including 1999. Not sure why they include 96-99 as everywhere else switches to the obd port for 96 and newer. There is no reason to do a sniffer test on a newer vehicle. They’ll know if you’re trying to trick them by just plugging into the obd port.

Not if you have a good tuner. They most def do still sniff newer cars. I had to have mine done one last time before I moved to Texas, and it's a 2000. I actually FAILED because of a catch can!!!!!! Wanted to state ref me and everything......I said nah, I'll be moved out of this state by then.

I wish I was kidding but unfortunately not. There are a lot of laws in this state that are questionable and make absolutely no sense other than a money grab. The part I don’t understand is the lack of inspections. You can drive down the street with bald tires, a busted windshield and half your lights out. No body really care unless law enforcement is looking for a reason to initiate a stop. But modify one emissions device and there is hell to pay. Go figure??????

They have been trying to pave the way for lower global emissions for years. Im pretty sure very simple google searches will reveal they still have most of the most polluted cities.
I was reading not long ago about they were banning gas stoves in homes because of emissions.

Yes, My Brother is a project manager here in California for a major residential developer and they don't have natural gas lines for new homes. Everything is Solar.

Yep. San Francisco is trying to ban gas water heaters by 2027 and gas furnaces by 2029. Pushing everything to heat pumps. We currently need to use these horrible ultra low nox furnaces specifically made for only 3 parts of CA. Problem is there is usually no location for an outdoor unit, you have to do major demo to run refrigerant lines/ drain lines/electrical and the 1960’s or older electrical panel can not take the additional load. This causes the home owner to spend a huge amount to upgrade the electrical service before replacing any equipment. Whole thing is insane.

I hear ya. I live in the Bay Area. California is definitely special in many ways

If I wasn't so established here I would move for sure

Texas is big and despite popular belief, we don't try to run you off the road when we see your California license plate lol.
I think the housing price gap is still large enough to sell there and buy 2 houses here. Live in one and live off the rent from renting out the other.

That was the old thought process. The new one is we let you come and feel out of your element, and we end up feeling superior. Lol
