ZL1-1LE PCV Valve

Can someone tell me where the PCV valve is on the ZL1?

Apologies in advance if this is a dumb question. It's probably right under my nose.

If you talking about what I'm thinking, it's the evap box to the left side of the supercharger, a black box with 3 snap connections that run various placed, the diverter valve is under the supercharge about in the middle top of the engine, if you google it, it shows where it's at!

Thanks.

My car has been smoking periodically. It doesn't happen all the time, just when the pressure builds up. During no-lift shifts especially and sometimes on decal.

Should I pull that black box to inspect or replace it? Everyone is telling me that the PCV is probably going bad. Car has just under 50k miles.

I can also hear some ticking noises from that general area.

ticking noise probably has nothing to do with the evap box. Maybe check for a losse hoes connection to the evap box and tow where they lead to. Do you have any engine codes? Others on the forum here will need to way in... your know getting to a level of trouble shooting that is above my pay grade!

is the smoke blue or black?

black smoke is unburnt fuel. This is normal.

blue smoke is oil, and might be considered normal, it could come from a few different places. Do you have a catch can on it?

I thought it was white but I must be going blind because someone said it was blue while at the track. It doesn't have a smell to it so it's not coolant and not head gasket related. I'm not running a catch can and we noticed it when the season started, even before I installed the Magnuson.

I'm curious if that evap box is clogged.

Does this Vent box need to be drained periodically?

You can't drain the stock evap box per' se. Meaning you would need to add a catch can to drain it. Might Mouse Wild 1000 HP is the one I choose. They have a solid top /cap for road courses, and a filter top for street and straight line racing. I started off with the Elite EX-2, but had issues with it as I had after market valve covers that were not fully baffled. But, when I switch to a MM Catch Can, all my issues related to that went away. You can drain a catch can, but, not the stock evap box. Remember, with out a catch can the crank case vapor is diverted into the blower, causing the issue to be magnified.

I agree, it should NOT look like mine did when I was having Catch Can problems!

It's under the front of the supercharger.

There are some pictures in this post. It's on the drivers' side, below the supercharger

That block box is the clean side air separator, I belive its referred to as in the FSM. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, think i remember it referred to as that. It has a hardline running from the bottom of the box to the oil pan which I belive to be the drain. So it drains itself. Their is the diverted valve under the supercharger as shown by H018871, I had mine replaced under warranty for excessive oil consumption. Seemed to help, but still burned some oil just drastically less, and still had some oil pooling under the supercharger. Added a Mighty Mouse mild with the road course top and it seemed to pretty much eliminate the oil under the supercharger. From what I was told you can't use the road course top on the wild version, but that was 5 years ago so maybe something has changed.

Great install, make it work without having to lift the supercharger! Following the FSM, it's basically $140 everytime you loosen the supercharger bolts
