I've spent the last few weeks getting my floor ready, and I'll be coating it tomorrow morning. I'll post up some pics when I'm done. I'm going with Rustoleum Rock Solid polycuramine. Looking forward to getting it done!

I just had my 24" x 36" garage professionally coated with a polyurea coating, flakes and then a polyaspartic clear topcoat. Looks great, and I'm real happy with it. I've installed DIY/big box epoxy kits, and had great results. Still, I wanted a little more "forever" protection, and when I looked into DIY "professional" grade coatings, the cost was almost $1500 just for tools and materials, no warranty, my time, and then frankly as thorough as I am....I'm still not a pro. I paid $4000.
Poly is the way to go in 2025. Some shops call it polyurea, some call it polyaspartic. What 99.9% of shops are doing though, is a polyurea basecoat, a full distribution of texture/color flake, and then a polyaspartic clear topcoat. At the end of the day, poly is just quicker to install, making it cheaper to install. Both Epoxy and Poly are more than strong enough to withstand anything a residential garage owner will throw at it. Epoxy was the first "real" solution, and it took all the lumps of the industry growing pains. All the stories of hot tire pulls, chips, etc. etc, and add the fact that the big box stores sold kits with "part" solid epoxies, lead to a kind of bad taste, but a professionally installed epoxy floor will serve you just as well as a poly floor. -and polyurea will yellow with UV exposure too. It's the flake and clear top coat that protect it. Something that wasn't applied to (but now IS applied) to epoxy coatings. At the end of the day, it's just easier, making it cheaper. |

Finished my coating with Rustoleum RockSolid, I went with the greige color. I'm very happy with it. Got it a little thin in some spots (where I attempted some concrete repair, which didn't turn out very well). Don't be afraid to buy an extra kit and return it if you don't need it. You can't just go back over it later.

My two favorite shop upgrades, the floor and the lift!
But let me tell you, drop something on the floor and you better be watching it hit the ground and where it rolls, because if you are not. Its Gone! best just get a large rolling magnet! Mine is full blue/white/black chip polly |

I built my shop with a 12' ceiling thinking it would be tall enough. didn't plan to drywall the ceiling but the builder did it anyway. lift was like 12' 1.5" so I ended up cutting out part of the ceiling. it works. with a low ceiling, you may have better luck with a 4 post if you want to put a car under it. or a 2 post that has the floorplate vs. the top plat. Floor Pate style. https://www.bendpak.com/car-lifts/tw...udes-adapters/ only thing is the floor plate can get in the way of rolling tools (oil drain carts, trans jack, etc...) |

Tempted to do my garage floor and all pictured here look great. The one unavoidable issue is that in places where one has to deal with cold winters, water sits on the coating and becomes a slip hazard. For old guys like me, a broken hip is the beginning of the end. Young to middle aged guys can bounce right back after a fall and laugh about it.
My three car stores our daily in one bay which sometimes comes in wet from rain or with slush beneath. Hate that but no choice considering alternatives like scraping icy windows, brushing off snow and cold interior. And mopping a wet garage floor at this point in life is something I'd rather not do. Just sayin'. Unfinished cement soaks up water and a day later, you only have some road dust and small pebbles to pick up. Laying down a retaining mat beneath the daily would solve that issue but would ugly up the beautiful, coated floor. Once again, I appreciate the great looks of the garages seen in the posts. |

Is a DIY coating better than no coating on a 30 year old garage floor? Professionally done floor isn't in the cards. Obviously the floor does have some stains on it from the previous home owner keeping cars and lawn mowers in there.
