LT1 stock wheels to bigger size
Hey Everyone,
This is my first thread still trying to figure out how to navigate this site. I’m sorry if this has been discussed. So I have a 2021 LT1 with stock wheels 245/40/R20 I am planning on putting bigger tiles with 1LE rims because I love those rims The tire size is 285/30/20 (front) 305/30/20 (rear) My question is, will I need a wheel alignment or so anyway extra to make these wheels work ? Thank you in advance |

Welcome to the forums!
For the 6th gen Camaro, every OEM wheel/tire option will fit any trim. Just have the wheel/tires balanced before install and you should be fine. Remember that since that is a bigger wheel and tire it will extend out more than your current setup, get some rock guards if you don’t want rock chips

The 315/30R20 is actually closer to the overall diameter of the SS stock rear tire size than the 305. If you run OEM 1LE wheels, go with 285 fronts and 315 rears. The fit is perfect.

to the forums Bad Anvil Garage is spot on about the rears, you want 315/30/20 as it's closer to your standard SS tire size. 315 will fit, just make sure the main body harness on the driver side isn't rubbing and maybe relocate it if you want (I don't think this is still an issue with newer model years). On the front, I'd go 275/35/20 instead of the 285/30/20 he suggested, for two reasons: first, the same argument of being closer to OEM sizing applies here as well (your suspension calibration and tire size in the tune is for the SS and not the SS 1LE), and second, 285/30/20 will slightly rub at full left steering lock on the driver side (there is a metal brace very close to the wheel well liner that'll cause some contact). You will not lose much, if any, steering agility by going with this alternate size in the front, I had both front setups on OEM 1LE wheels and never noticed a difference. EDIT: only 285/35/20 will rub, 285/30/20 will not, saying this was 100% my mistake (too many sizes over the years probably), sorry about it

That would be good news... maybe the slight rubbing is specific to magnetic ride control that my car has, or you do rub a little but it'll take longer to scrape the wear mark into the liner.

Guys I'm such an idiot.
I've just realized that the one rubbing on me was 285/35/20 and not 285/30/20. Sorry everyone, I won't delete my previous post, but indeed rubbing is a non-issue with 30 AR front tires. My other reason still applies, but not the rubbing Think I'll just edit it up so nobody stops reading and thinks those tires won't work...

285/30/20 is only the standard front size for the 1LE that has different suspension and tire setup in the tune.

However, I have been considering splurging on a 2nd set wheels to get 1LE style wheels (that look great!) with wider summer performance tires but if I do wanted to keep as close to stock tire diameter as possible. I don't want to go with the standard 1LE tire sizes for same reason you indicated that especially front tire is smaller diameter than rear when my LT1 suspension is not setup for that. I certainly agree that 275/35/20 fronts and 315/30/20 rears is best option to keep close to stock diameter. Main downside is the 315/30/20 size has pretty limited (and expensive) tire choices to pick from vs 305/30/20 size. So I was wondering thoughts on (and/or if anyone has tried) down one width in front and rear of 265/35/20 fronts (-1.4% from stock) with the 305/30/20 size rear tires (-1.8% from stock). A little less than 2% smaller diameter than stock for both (which isn't ideal) but at least still pretty close to even front and rear. My Camaro is a DD so I think 265 front width will be wide enough for me. The primary concern I have is if going with 265 instead of 285 on the 10" 1LE front wheel wouldn't look right? (I do think it is within acceptable range for that wheel size). Thoughts on whether this is a decent 2nd choice option or not?

Note that some tires are wider than others even at the same nominal width. For example, the Michelin PS4S is on the narrower side compared to, say, Goodyears. Check the exact tread width spec on the tires you're planning to purchase.
