As long as you have clearance of everything around the headers, they will be fine.

All that being said, coating the headers is never a bad thing.
Thank you for the warning. I would probably say that underhood temps are higher with a blower so I will look into those wires. So you just moved the wires as much as you could without compromising them getting frayed? Hoe many inches did they move away?

Don't cut corners man and just get them coated, you will be thankful later.

100%. With the money we invest in these cars, cutting corners rarely works out. And for those it supposedly does work for… how long? Was the car tracked? How much power does it make? Once you start pushing the envelope the heat jumps up with it… what works on an NA SS could turn out to be a problem once you have a boosted setup running good power.

Good advise. It's not worth it, it will cost more in the end.

And running a road course for 20 min at a time with constant throttle would be scary, so yes, I'm on it.

I made a phone call to them and we spoke about coatings. They now have the 2k coating. 2500 is no longer. Same concept though. 2k supposed to be better than previous versions.

Thanks for the suggestion.

How long does the coating last on a street car? My LS1 cars always had bare headers so I wouldn't know how well coating holds up. Due to the heat, wires and starter on these LT1/LT4 cars, I would be leaning towards getting the coating.

My Kooks had the 2500 coating it still looks brand new after 4 1/2 years. It's really durable stuff. I scrubbed my header collectors a few times on some speed bumps and it still didn't take the coating off.

My tuner suggested I get my headers coated. He said there were real world benefits. So I listened, and I’m glad I did. I have Kooks 2” headers with Tech Line HHBK base coat and Turbo X Black top coat. Combo is good to 3,000*F.

Numbers are awesome right?

I was able to grab my headers with my bare hands after it was running for an hour, after waiting for roughly 30 min. I don’t think that would’ve been possible without the coating, not even close.

Pretty crazy that after 4.5 years, they still look good.
They have some color options. Still unsure but given my car is rapid blue, I may go with something as close to Chevy orange as possible.

That's pretty insane, normally you have to wait longer than that to grab hot exhaust pipes.
