100% agreed.

I wish my dealer operated like that, but you don't really have visuals on the service bay at mine. Closest I got when I took in my car for inspection was sort of a staging area, they needed me to show them how to use the killswitch and to remove the OBD port lock.

That's what the owner of this ZL1 said and look what happened here.

Here i am thinking the update is for magnetic ride equipped cars and it would shed a second off from a minute long lap time. Silly me i guess

BCM Recall Update

When I dropped off my 2SS 1LE 6MT this morning, the Chevy service advisor said the BCM update is to prevent someone with a blank key from getting programmed to the car when the owner uses his key to unlock the car. He said it will not stop the car from getting a new key programmed through the OBDII port. So more theft resistant but not perfect.

There was a post by a member here who is a locksmith with an expensive scan tool and he said it ended up taking about 11-12 minutes to delete and reprogram the keyfobs... So it does sound like if anything, it made the process much longer (the thieves were using relatively cheap (~$400) scan tools off of Amazon and doing it in less than 60 seconds previously) so it does sound like there may be more benefit than simply not being able to clone a FOB when opening the door...

That is absolutely bonkers, Ferris Bueller parking garage attendant level stuff. Hope that dealership loses their shirt for fighting this.

They dealer service came by the house and did the BCM update it took about 30 min total and I lost no settings. It seems like the extra time at the dealer is just waiting for them to do it or service writer is eating lunch.

Interesting that the dealer tech came to you. That's a good place and worthy of business.
When I did my first oil/filter and diff change at 600 miles, my buddy who is an "A" tech at a GM dealer was told that he couldn't perform the "first free oil/filter change" at my home. So then we asked if the dealership would spring for the oil/filter with me doing the job and once again, nope. The dealer wasn't the one I bought the car at but it's my understanding that any GM dealership is obligated to perform warrantied/free maintenance and repair; regardless of where the vehicle was purchased. (Just for the record, the selling dealer would've been a 250 mile round trip.) You guessed it- I paid for all and did it to perfection in my garage.
As far as this recall, my letter states that I've got three years to get it done for free. My Gen 6 is a fair-weather cruiser and doesn't get parked out of my view. The vehicle has been perfect and I'm a bit leery having read about issues that crop up after the update.

Same here, skipped the dealership free oil change, even if it cost me money. I'd rather do it myself and know it is done right.

Ehh, I took the free oil changes. May as well get whatever I can out of them.

I mean, it is just an oil change. Although I'm not gonna lie, I did inspect their work after both free changes. They probably though I was weird opening up the hood and inspecting right there in the dealer parking lot. They did fine, but they did tighten the oil filter a bit tight for my liking.
I do feel better now that I'm on my own fill, but no regrets.

I didn't take a single one of their "free" oil changes... I want the least people touching my car as possible, especially after you hear the kids doing the "free" oil changes are some of the most inexperienced people in the dealer service department... (and why not, a basic oil change is one of the easiest things to do on a car, unless you don't realize it needs specific oil and a specific amount that is far higher than any traditional car).

Nope, I spent well over $100+ on each of my "free oil changes" to buy the oil and do the work myself... I spent over $50K on my car (after self installed GM mods), I wasn't going to let saving ~$100 destroy my car, have heard FAR too many horror stories about dealership service departments...

Got my recall done yesterday, took exactly a hour. not too bad, and they didn't drive the car any farther than across the lot.
