My car is on the list. I started a new thread about what I read on Facebook in the autocross thread.Hadn’t seen this thread so you can disregard my thread. I made thread as my notice never said anything about security so obviously it was updated. My dealer printed all copies of it and the tech procedures . These pages also said nothing as to what it does. So good news on the security data!

Good news.
I would not put faith in that. GM is replacing the defective valve body with the same defective part which does not fix the issue.

It is impossible for them to predict this wear and tear as it can happen on vehicles with as little as 3000 miles, or 120,000 miles.

There's no way for GM to predict this wear with that software update.

Not to mention Next Gen Drivetrain specifically said if you allow the software to lock out to 5th gear your transmission is more than likely toast.

Refer to this thread for more detailed information about the wheel lock issue: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=632693

Again this is not related to the BCM update in this thread.

The GM Authority article is encouraging. It’s strange they are not covering the whole generation. Maybe this was a vulnerability that was prone in the covered years and not the earlier.

Eager for confirmation here though.

Following my inquiry about the BCM recall, my dealership responded to my letter.

The Service Managers have demonstrated exceptional professionalism and expertise throughout our interactions, as evidenced by their latest communication.

My Service Manager reached out to their GM rep who handles our recalls for more details on what this program entails.

As this is all the information that I'm getting for that recall:

As for your questions:

Will this security enhancement:

1. Impact OBD II key programming security
  • This update is not expected to interfere with standard dealership programming tools,
though it may enhance restrictions to unauthorized devices.
2. Affect legitimate locksmith access
  • Certified locksmiths using approved tools should still have access
3. Modify wireless key or key fob functionality
  • No changes to key or fob operation are anticipated post-update
As for declining this recall, this is a customer satisfaction program recall not a mandatory or safety recall.

Declining the recall will not void your warranty.

However, if future issues arise related to your BCM and needs to be updated this recall will be applied to any future updates to the BCM software.

I took my car in for ESC service issue yesterday, and received this BCM update and supposedly reprogrammed the transmission control module for the momentary rear wheel lockup.

From my read of it, it won't necessarily fix the the theft issue. Unlike the dodge fix that to my understanding prevented any more keys being programmed to the vehicle this from the sounds of it will still allow keys to be programmed.
Even if it is only supposed to be certain devices and users, I would guess that this restriction will be reversed engineered in a short time.

But until more information becomes available I will hold back on judgment. Having said that and as stated above, I would for sure add after market security if you haven't already.

I myself would recommend getting an IGLA installed. I have one and it has prevented 2 attempted thefts of my car over the last few months. Plus it has an anti hijack mode available too, so even in a car jacking mostly likely not getting away with my vehicle

Hi roostere4,
  1. Were there any damages from the two theft attempts?
  2. Does IGLA recommend displaying security system warning stickers?
  3. And are there any common issues to be aware of?
Thank you!

There was some minor damage each time, but nothing too major. Biggest was needing minor body work and paint then ppf reapplied. All Better then needing to replace the car.

There are stickers available from some installers including mine, but I don't use them. Personally I didn't like the look of them on the car after having them on for a bit. Also i don't believe they would deter someone who wants to steal the car from actually trying. More importantly I don't want to give someone a heads up on what security is being used. From the way certain things were left, at least some thieves out there know about various deterrents that have been discussed and are used by members here.

As far as issues, If you mean issues with IGLA system, then no I've not run into any so far.

This may be a better deterrent than any stickers... It let's the thieves know you potentially have multiple layers of theft deterrence installed (which I do)...

Even if they get through these, their day has only just begun... They better have brought a flat bed if they want my car...

Layers upon layers, that is the best defense...

Hell, my car spends 99% of it's time in my locked garage behind another car... But I still wanna keep it...

You don't need to be the strongest fortress, you just absolutely do NOT want to be the weakest... Let someone else be the prime target...

Oh, and the owner is "Concealed carry...." "Do you feel lucky, punk???" "You might just want to move on to someone else..."

After recovering my car (quickly, and pretty undamaged) last year, I made some adjustments to the car, and to where I'll leave it. In a more just world, car theft would be harder the second time because doing things one handed is always harder.
