Tool crib is an easy job so it takes high seniority to get it.This is the incident that had a Committeeman (union steward) scream at me in the parking lot... The youngest guy in one of the tool cribs was a raging alcoholic and the older guys hated his guts. He did something that really could have gotten him fired. It is more than likely that the older guys set him up. So I needed to work with the Committeeman (Basil) to make a case for whatever the punishment would be. Even though firing him was an option, I didn't think I could get Basil to work with me on that. Plus I had a friend who was a supervisor in another plant who had a guy pull a gun on him IN THE PLANT after my friend fired him. Plus I was tired of going back and forth with Basil. So he got time off without pay and was required to check into a treatment plan that the company paid for. Basil caught up with me in the parking lot and said (screamed actually) "What the eff is wrong with you?!?! Why didn't you fire the sonofabitch?". I was totally confused because Basil bent over backwards defending him in the hearings. Basil explained to me that as Committeeman he was basically the guy's lawyer and he had to put up a fight, but he was clear that if I had pushed a little harder he would have folded.

Don't worry the Camaro V8 is never coming back and it has nothing to do with low sales, manufacturing or anything else you seen or heard it has everything to do with federal emissions mandates and that's not going to change. Even if Trump rolled back all the emissions standards that have been set in place GM cannot risk in 4, 8 or even 12 years down the road for another president to continue to declare war on fossil fuels. States like CA and the west coast will continue with eliminating oil products including cars. So unless the Camaro is rebadged as a EV you'll never see it again.

The idea of CO2 being a pollutant is a joke, but quite a few suckers have bought into it. The heavy pollution that was created in America up through the EPA mandates now happens unabated overseas. NOTHING has gotten better, its gotten worse, just not here. America has paid the price with jobs leaving the country. Had we kept the jobs here, we could have at least regulated the pollution. I guess the powers that be dont believe pollution is a problem! |

Our new President has stated today "Americans will be able to buy the cars they want." No more idiotic EV mandates, thank god.
Bring back the ICE Camaro!

I am interested to see how this goes. We were already not adopting EVs fast enough (depending on who you talk too) due to consumers not meeting up to regulators expectations. Ill be watching social media and data more closely. |

This is easily one the most racist statements I've read on this forum. I hope you see why, Number 3.

That would be wrong, Sir.
First you said "it [DEI] is part of the conversation but never the sole reason". This should never be part of the conversation, the same way no other protected attribute should be used to filter, preference or impact the hiring decision positively or negatively. The way it works in woke corporate is that you as a HM are given annual and multi-year quotas/targets that you are scored against, plus HR prefilters the candidate pool in accordance with these target numbers, so by the time they enter the interview stage, the stream consists of (vast) majority preferred candidates, be they women, hispanics, blacks, LGBTQ, whichever group is the highlight of the current DEI hiring target. If you don't see how this is a problem, I probably need to rest my case. Then your next statement is "if it was up to a bunch of white guys hiring more white guys we would actually have a problem", which means you don't think the previous practice is a problem, plus you insinuate that a "bunch of white guys" will want to hire "more white guys". No, Sir, we want to hire the best candidates, and also no, being white isn't part of the definition of "best". For example, if I have 10 positions open and the very best candidate for each is of Asian origin, I will hire 10 engineers of Asian origin and have a 0% white, 0% black, 0% latino, 100% Asian new hire mix (this isn't even far-fetched unfortunately), and all others have our work cut out to improve so next time the distribution is different. Heck, even the use of these categories is already racist, but I sure didn't invent either them or approve of their prevalence in the discussion... All this added up is what prompted my comment.
