I believe the thread pitch on all the NTA adapters are the same so you can use any Raceseng knob.

![]() ![]() download drake album free online Went with the red boot collar on mine but not really feeling it since there’s no other red accents in the interior. Also ordered a black collar just in case. Will let it marinate, maybe look at the knee pads and door trim accents, see if a black/grey/red theme works for me. Doing the same under the hood so at least it would be consistent. In either case, some time after Christmas I’ll have an extra boot collar to put up for sale! Need to get some other parts listed as well from the summer build. Liking the shift weight, not sure that the extra weight makes it feel less notchy on the stock shifter, but I like the feel. 2-3 shift does feel more precise. Will have to give it time. I didn’t damage the stock knob in the swap so if I had to go back it wouldn’t be terrible. A thin and narrow flathead to front and rear of the shift knob are where the tabs are located. After you unstick the boot material from the knob, just press the flathead in those spots to push the clips and give it a little side to side pry to release the clip and then do the opposing side until it slides off. The plastic ring takes a little abuse but totally reusable if you had to get the stock knob back on clean.

My cap is grey carbon fiber. Took 20-30min. Most of the time consumption was figuring how to separate the boot ring from the knob without damaging anything. If I had to do it again, 15min job easy.

Looks good! ....I swapped mine on this weekend as well. I can agree with most of what you said as far as how the swap went. I'll add some pics and my two cents later on....

I don't think I would have purchased the Raceseng stuff if Blackmonba6Gen didn't post this thread (thank you!) - Raceseng should give you some freebies or commission. hahaha

OK, so I went with the "Contour" shift knob, calling out to the classic white shift knobs of yesteryear. At first, I didn't want the shift pattern on it because I thought it was too modern, but, being a 6gen, and since it's not actually fully round, I feel the modern style engraving fits well, and I am happy I bought it. It was the LAST white Contour knob. I asked! It's HEAVY. I was impressed. As other's have said, I do believe it helps. Possible bias, sure. But I'm happy with the shifting AND appearance. We all have preferences, but if you like the feel of the round shift knob, this feels even better with the groove around the bottom. -though you can't buy one anymore sooooo, I suppose it doesn't matter. Oops. ....BUT....if you DO like the round shift knobs. I ALSO purchased a Barton, resin shift knob. White also, with the traditional old school engraved shift pattern. They have black too. Now it's the same size 3/4" thread. I'd ASSUME it's the same 16 pitch. Will find out, though I really like the Raceseng, and doubt I'll switch. Barton knob should be in this week.
Anyhow, old boot removal just like Grey Ghost mentioned. A small flathead screw driver between the knob and the silver ring. Worked my around it with just slight little twists. Never LOOKED like it was doing anything, but after about 6 or 7 twists, it DID eventually "pop" the black collar inside the boot off the clips. I attached a photo of the knob so you can "see" what was holding the knob to the collar inside the boot. I can't confirm, but I suspect as the silver ring was moved down, away from the knob, it helped to compress the clips on inside of the knob, allowing the boot to come loose. Once the boot was off, I could've left it as is, but thought I might use the silver ring (not sure how) and some channel locks got 'er done without issue. The one TIP that I'd like to add is when pushing the screwdriver between the ring and the knob, push it all the way in. About 3/16" of an inch. First two times I was "gentle", and didn't push it all the way. Those are the ONLY two blemishes i made on the ring that can be seen if I ever use again. Anyhow, sorry for the night shots. Daylight is always better but I didn't wanna be left out after Grey Ghost updated the group! ....and thanks to Blackmamba. Had it on the backburner, but definitely would've missed out if not for him posting. |

Awesome write up Abubaca, thanks!
Also +1 at buying this because of Blackmonba lol A friend of mine has had Raceseng shift knobs on his GTI since he got it and I got to use it when we went up to the mountains. I could never justify the price before but at 50% off it was just too good to pass up. I think I got the last heat treated Titanium one as well as the Ashiko so I'll post pics of them when the adapter comes. I missed out on the shift boot collars so I'll have to find a way to make that transition nicer. |
