In a way, guess it isn't too surprising. Ford did the same thing with the S650 being just a heavily refreshed S550. Though I doubt a 2nd MCE to the Camaro would have brought a massaged LT1 where Ford brought more power to the S650.
Going MCE instead, with market decline, is self-fulfilling.

Hopefully Ford follows through on a 'Mustang sedan' and does things right with it.

Instead, GM should have dropped the Cadillacs.
Last I looked a couple years back, Chevy SS's go for more than (similar power level) CTS V-Sports. People getting a Blackwing are getting the wrong car (versus a ZL1-1LE).

That is a beautiful car. Buddy at work has a CT4-V, it is awesome

No one car has it all (except maybe the new ZR1 lol). The Mustangs has both port and DI fueling plus a built in wideband with WOT fuel trim…stuff that I wish our Camaros came with. There are pros and cons to every car out there unless you drop a very large pile of cash. Besides, A10 is faster anyway and if you really really want the TR6060 it’s in the Dark Horse. You just have to decide how important it is to you. Also, cash.

I shifted the 3160 in the GT350 (can’t imagine it’s that’s different than the DH one) and it’s an excellent shifting transmission. It feels different versus the 6060 but I don’t mean that in a bad way.

I got into a huge skirmish on Mustang6 a couple years ago on this topic. It’s a very touchy and contentious subject. My input was that I had the opportunity to drive a Bullitt for a couple days followed by a GT350 for a couple days. When it came time to give the Bullitt back I did so gladly because of how much I hated that transmission. For background, early in my career I was service engineer for GM manual transmissions, so I know a bit about them. When I started that job GM had just entered into a JV with Getrag and was manufacturing Getrag designed FWD (HM282, HM284) transmissions and RWD (HM290) transmissions at the Muncie Indiana plant.

My problem with the Bullitt was 90% with the transmission. The throws were way too long. It totally lacked decent feel. The gear ratios were not optimal. It was just bad. Then I got into the GT350 the day I gave the Bullitt back. Sa-weeet!! Short throws…click-snap detent feel…ratios overlapped nicely so that if I wanted to drive around town in 2nd or 3rd gear I could do it, but if I wanted to be in 4th or 5th that was fine too. When it was time to give that car back I tried (very unsuccessfully) to negotiate another day. After I gave the keys back I started surfing Bring A Trailer to see if there was a sneaky good deal on a GT350. I eventually came back to reality (plus first hand info from a friend on VooDoo oil consumption) and just let it go.

My 2008 Bullitt was a neat car and quite fast for its era. The trans was awful. Under hard acceleration (not beating on it), it would hang up second to third. Many owners brought them in to replace synchros while others thought it was a torque issue that misaligned shifter gates under hard acceleration. Didn't help.

Yeah those voodoo issues are why I’m in a 1le instead. The Gt350 IS more exciting than an SS 1LE. No one can change my mind on that. Anytime a car gets its own bespoke engine or it comes with a non run of the mill engine that car usually tends to be special.

If they weren't so damn expensive I may have very well ended up in a Mach 1. The Dark Horse is nice but the Mach has such a heritage with Mustang. The GT350 is awesome too, but there are issues as mentioned. I came from a 2014 5.0 and I really did like that car. Great motor, and paired with a Tremec it would be even better.

Plus, the new S650, including the Dark Horse, are just too screen focused. I need some physical buttons and can't stand playing on an iPad to put the A/C on. I like that GM gave us at least a more analog climate control system.

Tracks with a lot of the discussion in the Mustang6 thread I was referring to. A lot of the “whatchu talkin’ ‘bout…It’s a great transmission” sentiment was coming from GT owners who had never driven a GT350 or a 6th Gen Camaro with Tremec. Those that had were pretty much in the “it could be better, but it’s okay” camp. I was in the “Ford is ruining a perfectly good car with the Getrag” camp.
