I have to agree with Christian here. Old Hoosier propaganda used to tell you to heat cycle the tires so the rubber bonds were more uniform and the tire will wear better. Nothing about being quicker.

And in my experience, the old Nankang CR-1 was grippiest right about the second turn on the autocross course. CR-Sv2 did take a couple heat cycles to come up to speed but I chalked it up to learning the new compound. I had run through 5 sets of CR-1/CR-Sv1 when the v2s came out and I switched when my last set of v1 were about half gone(70 runs). The v2 felt different and I went slower until I got used to them. The RE71RS was a lot like the CR-1, it had great grip right off the bat and the tire felt good so I went quicker than the CR-Sv2s.

Nobody has claimed a gentle 1st heat cycle makes the tire faster, it just makes it perform as intended from the start. I've heard claims of better wear too, but that's incidental to whether it performs optimally right off the bat and I didn't notice much difference in wear patterns or longevity so IDK about that. I also don't think it's "propaganda", it's just a physical phenomenon that's not all that difficult to observe and I'm not sure tire co's are lying about it. Also, I can only speak for the RE71RS used for autox.

Also, can't find it right now, but there was a poll on SCCA Solo facebook page on how many heat cycles they'd ideally want on their tires showing up to Nationals and almost everyone replied they'd want at least a couple.

In my experience, the 71RS definitely benefits from a heat cycle for wear/longevity. As for pace, Andy Hollis has repeatedly shown the 71RS gets faster as tread depth wears a bit so perhaps that is the bigger factor than a heat cycle itself?

Also all tires are different. Seems the CRSv2 really loves a heat cycle for the compound to start working well, while the A052 can be quick straight away.

A friend I drive with regularly got a hold of a set for his GT3, they were cycled out after 4.5 days and corded after 6.

Ouch, I'll pass on those. OEM SC3s are darn close to half that price with the 25% off GY via USAA. My last set was around $1300 inc taxes and mounting.
