First, stealing a Kia was wayyyyyyyy easier than stealing a Camaro. Way.

Second, insurance companies blacklisted these Kia models. They were in some cases un insurable so hey actually had to do something.

Third, GM has actually led in countless ways including the segment leading performance of the Camaro that not enough people wanted to buy.

Car thefts went over 1,000,000 last year for the first time since 2008. It’s a bigger problem than the Camaro

If you can’t afford a second vehicle, a place with a garage, or secure storage- you can’t afford said cars.

Yeah? Well that doesn’t work to well when you’re sleeping in the middle of the night and you don’t hear the break in.
It also doesn’t work to well if you live in a state that doesn’t let you use deadly force to protect personal property regardless if you are licensed to have a firearm.
I will never go to jail over a car that I can replace THAT DAY.

Everyone is free to make their choices. I would engage in confrontation even if I thought things would end badly for me.

People routinely kick in doors and enter houses in broad daylight these days.

If you're willing to die for $30k-$60k, I suggest volunteering for a branch of the military. At least you'll get to see some cool places while putting your life on the line for entry level money. Don't ever think a thief comes unarmed or alone. Some do, most don't. Most of these cowards roll in packs. You better have John Wick skills before you come out the door brandishing, otherwise openly engaging in armed conflict puts everyone else around you at risk for every round fired that doesn't hit you or the other gunman.

I hate thieves just as much as the next person. If your states laws allow you to defend your property wherever it is in that manner, go for it.

Clearly Shepherd has life opinions some don't care for. Maybe he doesn't live in a glass house. Everything you do in life carries risk. I've seen it myself, folks driving GT500's, R8's, ZL1's, Corvettes, other hot cars, and living in apartments or condo's, no garages. I don't hate on them, they have every right to live the way they want to live, and in a perfect world people should respect others property. But we don't live in that world. So if you street an expensive vehicle, or anything you can't readily afford to replace/lose, you're taking a huge risk. Perhaps, even living beyond your means. In 2019 the statistic was 60% of people in this country live paycheck to paycheck. Social media stirs up the thirsty folks, and before you know it, you gotta drive that hot car so you can keep up with the Jones'. Today, I know more than a few folks who are a layoff away from giving up their cars/trucks, and a few months of unemployment away from a bankruptcy.

Like I said, Shepherd's opinion is a little on the salty side, but it has merit and it's his opinion. Regardless of how much security GM gave us, it's our responsibility as owners to secure our property. Whether that includes spending hundreds or thousands to do it, depends on what your property is worth to you.

Regardless, there's not much for material things worth risking your life for.

AI anti-theft deterrent technology should of been apart of the package on any Camaro made from 2020-2024 on any 1SS, 2SS and ZL1.

That's what people do in south america. There's a guy in the parking lot looking at cars. It's a mafia. If you don't pay him 5/10/20 bucks they either key your door or the car is gone.

I might have seen the future who knows...

Crazy stuff.

For me, sitting in a prison cell while the dead thief's family divide up the assets I worked for all my life, because the law decided I wasn't justified to put his bitchass down for attempting to steal my $30k car, is a fate worse than being out a car for a couple months while I wait on the insurance company to cut me a check. It's not like I'd let someone punk me out of my car in a face to face. You don't have to cower in fear, but you have to be smart enough to make sure the law is on your side. Even if you get cleared criminally, you still may face civil charges. It could be a week or two, or up to a year or more of your life tied up defending your actions. I promise it won't be more than 60 days waiting for that insurance check.

Agreed except (2016-2024). Thieves are lazy and just want the quick getaway. We can put lots of anti-theft devices on our cars and it will most likely result in the car not being taken. Down side is a broken window and possibly other damaged from the attempt. Going this route, the thieves will not know what car is easy and what car is difficult until damaged has already been done. To the thieves, the vehicles are still "easy" to steal until they find out differently from what each individual owner has done. If the OEM would implement some sort of protection from their end that makes all the Camaros difficult or near impossibly to steal without a tow truck, the thieves would find another more lucrative target. (in theory). All it would take is a security update from GM to prevent the key programming. (key fob signal extending is a whole other issue). It would not only protect the Camaros but the rest of their product line as well. Unfortunately common sense is a super power and with GM, once the vehicle is sold, they could really care less about the customer.

I'm just going to throw out that just because someone lives in a condo or apartment doesn't mean that they can't afford a house. The Penthouse rent in my building goes for way more than most people could ever dream to spend on a mortgage payment. There are many reasons people may choose to live in an apartment/condo over a house.

Or as someone started earlier, what about when you are out? Or at work? Or on a road trip? Just drive the car and never stop until you get home?

Also just having a house is not a guarantee of having a garage. Many houses in cities in this country don't have garages or even in some cases driveways.

Also is it still only the owners fault when their car gets stolen or of their garage?

We all need and I hope take responsibility for our own actions, decisions and risk factors. But there is nothing wrong in also pointing out that stealing a Camaro is just too damn simple at the moment. There is no real skill or time needed which is the real problem and not that people don't have a house and garage to park their Camaro in

Agree totally. It not even risking your life for 30 to 60k. If you have insurance you are risking your life simply in principal, or to see if watching all 4 John Wick movies stuck.

Letting someone steal insured property is not cowering in fear. As I said it would be for principal only. And if your principal is to just start blasting (insert Danny Davito meme) your choice to face the consequences.

This. There is a reason some people want to take the shield away from LEOs and this is it. To get more money in a lawsuit.

Again, it’s just the practical solution if your life or your families isn’t in danger.

Avoid conflict at all costs. What you don’t know is the thief has also watched all 4 John Wick movies.

Not solved but avoided.

I wonder if your insurance covers bullet holes in your Camaro that you put there.

Again, it’s why we buy insurance. Not worth jail, loss of assets, and simply living with the thought you killed someone over a Camaro. I couldn’t.

Good luck.
