Don't overfill your oil is pretty effective also.

Was wondering if this is something I need to be concerned about. Was planning on installing an oil separator, catch can, but it looks like you need to remove the top cover of the SC, to access the PVC valve. I'm a little leery of tearing apart the top end of the engine considering the car still has 28 months of factory warranty on it, really don't want to jeopardize my warranty by taking apart the blower. So, was wondering what other options I might have concerning an oil catch can. The car
only has 1420 miles on it, but really don't want any oil leaks at 6 or 7 thousand miles either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks.
You'll need to take the bolts out of the supercharger completely, tilt it up and rest it on something sturdy to be able to access the PCV valve. Those bolts are torque to yield (you can reuse the lid bolts), so you'll have to replace them and torque to spec, but I did mine in my driveway in a day without issue. I, personally, would recommend an oil catch can for ANY direct injection application.

Having a catch can with a vent is even more important to reduce crankcase pressure. There's literally no downside to using a catch can other than warranty concerns which depends on your dealer.
This ^^. So much this. Its the oil that cakes on the tops of the valves that you need to avoid. Because it is direct injected as opposed to port injected, the gas doesn't help clean off the valves each cycle, so it just continues to build on the valves.

Has anyone documented carbon build up on intake valves of a stock ZL1 LT4?

I would assume the risk is very low especially with use of a dexos or mobil 1 oil that meets ilsac gf-6.

These were interesting to read:

Stock engines are fine. GM sorted out the GDI carbon buildup issues in the Gen5 LT engines in MY2015. Has since been debated and documented multiple times on these forums, with pictures similar to the LT4 in the 2nd link (i.e. not an issue). Catch cans are not necessary.

Catch cans are recommended for modded/tuned cars.

Cool Easy fix!!

It is really just the oil vapor being pulled into the SC inlet from the valve covers. I added two $30 Air/Oil separators I bought on Amazon, made two aluminum brackets and spliced them into each plastic line using the provided hoses in the kit with epoxy sealed heat shrink between the hoses. In six track days and 10,000 miles... I have zero oil in my SC bricks!! I didn't go buy some high-dollar Mighty-something catch can and remove any of the factory systems to clean my SC's airflow. Understand... if there is oil in the SC under the lid... it has ALREADY gone past the rotors and they are covered too.

While removing the lid, you can take out the STEEL NOISE ABATEMENT PLATE and drop your Manifold Air Temps while also increasing the Supercharger Whine noise we all love! Another example of how the Engineers were told by tree-huggers at GM that SC Noise is BAD!!

Removing the lid, cleaning and taking out the steel plate is a 15-minute procedure. You will thank me later!!

Cool This is how you do it!!

This is how you remove the supercharger lid and steel plate at the track to see immediate performance gains!

Other than the louder blower whine, I'm very skeptical with any other claim about removing the plate in the lid.

Exactly why we removed another one while at Road Atlanta to prove back-to-back results and observed the MATs of both air sensors as well as the amount of timing being pulled before and after. The net also showed a laptime reduction due to less timing being pulled on a wide open throttle stretch from turn 7-10a where I reach speeds of 160mph.

In fact... all those shops who sell Billet Lids, not ONE has ever done a comparison of just removing the steel plate in the OEM aluminum lip to the claimed HP gains of a billet lid and no steel noise abatement plate.

I honestly couldn't tell any difference at all by removing the inside blower plate. But, when I got my DSX lid, it was noticeably much louder of a whine sound, then, when I got my blower Kong X-Port, HOLY CRAP that's a totally different ball game at that point !!!!!

Seat of the pants you really would not notice much unless you are running your car like we are, flat out for 30-40 minutes nonstop!

Here is the session prior to removing the plate from the Orange ZLE M6 running on Hoosier R6 slicks! TURN UP YOUR SPEAKERS!!!
