Smooth Boost Controller

Do you use or have you used this controller? What has been your experience?
My shop has recommended it as something my car needs.

The reason I pointed that out is that I had a 2.9 Whipple at the time. When I upgraded to the 3.0 I needed a different bracket and linkage spacer, which was easy thankfully and Levon gave me a bracket that was pretty close. You’ll obviously need to get the setup for the Eddie 2650 since the bracket will likely not be the same as the Whipple.

Yes, they have one for the Eddie with a right-side bracket. I wonder how the ET will vary with and without it? In any case, 99.99% of my miles are on the road.

ET shouldn’t change at all. Full pedal equals full boost, just like a vacuum bypass.

On the street, you can simply turn the knob down half way to make it much safer to drive on the street and still have enough power to vaporize 99.9% of the cars on the road.

Cool. BTW how much does a short block weigh?

I’d guess ~ 350 pounds. Smoothboost cannot change that. LOL

Seriously

I'm selling mine so weight is the first question. A bare block weighs 225

It is a cool piece for certain use cases. We removed it from my car recently because it doesn't seem to be able to react as quick as a vacuum actuator in closing the bypass valve and we'd much rather have all the boost as fast as possible and control launch with spark. But this is just one use case of course. I will add, the shop has had two go bad due to what they believe is heat, but I'm not sure if they got confirmation on that from Smooth Boost yet.

It's been a while since I posted on this controller, so I don't recall all the details, but it seems to me that I ended up looking to use ECM and TCM tunes. However, the car definitely does not have such tunes now.

That’s surprising to hear. When my shop installed mine, we literally watched in real time as someone moved the accelerator pedal, the bypass moved at the exact same time. I don’t know how it could be any faster honestly. But that wasn’t under boost, so I’m not sure if that makes any difference. But with a moderately sized cam, the vacuum bypass was miserable to live with.

Surprisingly the larger cam and better flowing engine made the vacuum actuator more tolerable than the mild cam in my case. I think there is a list of other good reasons for the Smooth Boost, but in trying to get a 1.1x 60', it just introduced a variable we didn't have before and decided to remove (for now).
