Tire size, 245/40R20 Vs 245/45R20?

Has anyone gone to non-flatrun 45 series tires to improve ride quality? If so can the tire size be adjusted in the Camaro's computer for the speedo?

A set of quality non-runflat tires alone will help tremendously with ride quality (and road noise). If you switch to 45 aspect ratio tires, your tire height will be close to 29", I wouldn't compromise ride height and performance with those but stick with the 40s, get some good non-runflats and be fine.

Yes, the speedo can be reprogrammed, but that qualifies as a tune in case you still have warranty (I assume you already bought a newer 6th gen Camaro to replace your 2012 in your signature), and is pretty expensive anyway if that's the only change you want to make, because you have to buy the tuning device, whether it's an advanced scan tool or a full HP Tuners kit.

I have to say, for what they are, the stock tires aren't that bad, at least the way I use them on the street. I've seen worse. Obviously, a good set of something like Michelin's or Continental's (love their Exreme Contact Sport) would greatly improve things enough to not make it worth tuning and changing the factory profiles like arpad said.

OEM tires are awesome (road & track) unless you drive in the rain, a lot.
They are also very convenient if you get an air leak.

If you drive in the rain, get all seasons, many recommendations out there, PS4 etc

That qualifies as a tune and will void warranty?

Well, it requires a flash write that I'd do with my HP Tuners MPVI2, and such "foreign writes" show up in GM's system. I haven't tried it with a dealer level scan tool, but it's difficult to imagine a flash write that could remain invisible.

Of course a dealership could do it, but they won't unless there is a supported package or sanctioned upgrade they can write it up against, which is unlikely. Heck, nobody at dealerships can even cancel out my bogus CAI recall without writing a GM tune that would just mess things up...

Maybe more informed/experienced automotive hackers can do something magical, but I'm personally not aware of that.

Sounds like we need more experienced hackers in this trade to help us out

Agree with 302crossram! If you want to increase rear tire size and the speedometer be off about 2 to 5 miles an hour then you could go with 285/35-20s. I had this size on my 2016 2SS and had no issues.

I am not worried about the computer adjustment the dealer will make the adjustment. I assume that the total difference between the two tire sizes is 240 = 27.72 (704) OD, vs 245 = 28.68 (728.5) OD that the only drawback is acceleration, but I should see better gas mileage. I don't think going from 240 to 245 with less than an inch increase in overall tire diameter would cause any clearance issues, Does anyone disagree?

Just an FYI, as soon as GM delivers the wife's new 2024 3LT convertible to the dealer I am putting on Pirelli P Zero tires on it the same tires we got with our 2012 SS, which rides head and shoulders better than the 2023's with the run-flat tires. I will then peddle the new run-flats.

My fronts are 27.9" tall and there is already a minimal amount of (wheel liner) rubbing at full left lock on the driver side. In the rear, you may want to double-check and possibly relocate the wiring harness unless GM changed the routing for later model years. Other than these, you should be good.

The 5th gen tires are taller than the 6gens so I agree with arpad_m that you need to check the sizes before you put on the wife’s 2024.

I agree that just going to good non-runflats in 40s should help (that is essentially what I went with and am happy with).
If you really want to go with 45's for more sidewall, I think a better option is also get 19" wheels so you can go with 245/45/19 - more money but then you get exactly the same tire height and don't have to worry about clearance, reprograming speedo,...
