Better get you some drag radials to run on the street. I run a 305-35-20 Nitto 555 R2. Wouldn't even consider running a street tire at my 707 power level. You'll be in the same boat, you won't be able to hook it till probably 60 mph. You don't want that thing over revving all the time trying to get over 750 rwhp to hook up. |

Any tire better than Nitto? Run flats?

Nitto 555R2 are good. Run flats are prob one if the worst for traction. Too stiff and hard.
Theres also the toyo r888r (not a DR) but ive never used them. Neither are going to give great wet traction though. The Michelin as3+ were decent in rain and cold, but by far inadequate everywhere else compared to a DR.

I had Toyo R888Rs, they grip all right in the dry but sound like a monster truck with offroad tires. The whine starts at 40-45 mph and gets more obnoxious as you accelerate. Some don't mind and drown it out with their catless long tube headers, but you may want to think twice if you're planning to take someone for a drive on occasion and have a conversation in the car.

I think Nitto makes the best street/drag radial. I have 6k miles on mine, they are a good choice for applications.

OK... car went through the road tune yesterday and should hit the rollers with the new pulleys on soon.... back to the drag radials... looks like Nitto 555R2 are good. I know NOTHING about drag radials... how are they in wet roads? (I heard they were 'shitty'...lmao) I am moving to FL next month, so mostly driving car on weekends for fun on dry roads, but it can rain quickly in FL.
I just know I have to replace the run flats that came with the car for sure. Thoughts?

What size did you go with? I run the 305 35 20s for the street and 28x10 Hoosier for the track. The Nitto is not going to hook from a dig, no tire will with your power level or even mine at 707, but from a 40 to 50 roll they do pretty good depending on the pavement. Waiting to see some great numbers.

The shop got me 305's... that is what they said they use....
The run flats on the car now is having a hard time hooking up on the rollers (and they have traction stuff on them) He uses Mickey Thompson's on his C7 (which is way over 1000rwhp), but a lot of guys here use the Nittos on the Camaros. There is a sweet Gen6 with the twin hellion kit on it with a 427 that is over 1000rwhp in the shop when I stopped by yesterday... dude has spent over $80k on that build.... too rich for me... haha

Update...finally got the car on the rollers:
850 rwhp/ 843 torque at 14 lbs of boost turned it down to 832/822 I am happy with that for a street car. The tuner did make a comment though... "tuned for E, but you won't really gain the benefits of the E until E60. 93 and meth is more than enough at this point" Regardless.. I am running E in the car if its available in FL where I am moving too.

I plan on running E as I thought the comment from the tuner was a tad strange, as all along I have told the shop the only reason I was using meth was for cooling and washing the valves... I will run a tank of 93 or better occasionally as well. Just another coyote eater hitting the road

On a tight ring gap engine with mediocre pistons and high compression such as the stock LT1, we have to keep the cylinder temps as low as possible and need fuel evenly distributed to all cylinders. But you jumped that hurdle right from the start by upgrading the internals and lowering compression. So you are good to go. Should be a fun setup!!
