Right? Didn't know those still existed lol...

Thank you, and no problem at all! They didn't specifically mention if they saw a break or the start of a break, but since changing out the pump my car has returned to a consistent 29-31 PSI idle, so I think it's safe to assume the pump was starting to fail.

Engine oil temp 129F. Should be measured at operating temp ~210F to get some consistency with the group. It will drop to 29-30psi.

I see 29-30 psi at hot idle (~210F with either 0w-40 or 15w-50) in normal driving and on the track (15w-50) I see this in July 100F+ ambient. The min values should include idle time ("in-lap") before I shut down:

I see just a hair below 40 at full operating temp -210 for the oil temp. Others with 23s are in the same range at full operating temp. It’s seems that the 2022 and 2023 (not sure about 2021) have a higher target idle pressure.

Sitting about 35psi HOT idle.

Engine oil in 200*F range. Whatever swill GM approves for these. I can check part # on Gm work order in case anyone is interested.

Hey all! Just wanted to update on the behavior of my oil pressure after my pump was replaced under warranty. So:

I have noticed that when driving normally (no WOT pulls, just driving the car through traffic), my hot idle pressure is the expected 29-31 PSI at all times. However, I have noticed that if I'm driving the car hard (which I do, even on the street, I drive like the 20 year old hooligan I am) my idle PSI drops to the mid-high 20s range. This is ONLY noticeable directly after putting the car under high load such as WOT pulls.

In the two videos below, I have shown both scenarios. The first video is directly after several WOT pulls (in Mexico ofc ), and the second video is no more than 5 minutes later when I pull into the garage. In the video showing oil pressure directly after WOT pulls, I also give it a few revs to show what the pressure is like under a little bit of load. I've also displayed the oil temperature in both of these videos to give everyone an idea of the amount of load put on the car immediately before filming (in the post-WOT vid, you can see that the oil temperature is quite high relative to normal idle levels).

So, is this concerning behavior, or is this expected? Once I return to normal driving, the PSI always returns to that consistent 29-31 level (as shown in the second vid). I suspect part of this might be due to the choice of 5W-30 oil by my dealership; given how I drive the car, I think I'm going to swap this out with 0W-40 this week.

I would love to hear anyone's thoughts on this!

Here are the videos,

It could be the heat and combination of rapid deceleration with engine oil distribution. Compare this with the Mobil 1 Supercar 0w/40.

Why did they put in 5w/30 instead of 0w/40? I'm doing an oil change next week and I'll film the change for you after I get it warmed up.

I believe that’s what the 2018 MY came with from the factory for some stupid reason, and I read somewhere that with warranty repairs that is the only oil that GM will reimburse dealers for.

That would be greatly appreciated!

Update:

0W-40 has been put in the car; pressure seems to be about the same, maybe like 1-2 PSI higher max.

Warm idle from normal driving conditions (oil temperature at 200 degrees) is dead on 30 PSI.

Warm idle from driving under LOAD (doing a couple hard pulls and idling right after) seems to be about 28.

Does this line up with others’ experiences? I feel like I shouldn’t be worried since I just had the pump replaced under warranty, but at the same time I wish it would just stay pegged at 30 PSI idle regardless of the temperature.

I would say this is dead accurate with my conditions on my 2018 with 17k miles and a stock pump. 28-30 hot idle. Maybe a tad higher in cooler weather and obviously a bit higher under load

I just got my car back from Janetty. They installed a Katech pump.going in my stock pump at idle with 0w40 with 38k miles was 30-31#. Now it’s 34-35. Anywhere of idle, 42-45#. The oil pressure is way more responsive.

Got to give the guys a Jannetty’s 10,000 thumbs up. They are world class organization. The quality of their work is second to none. True professionals.
