I would suggest maybe trying and HPDE event or a track night in america. There you can let it loose a bit more than on the open road without the problem of police or possibly endangering bystanders. Maybe it will satisfy some of that as well as teaching you better car control and knowing the limits. If you truly have that much anxiety then maybe it is time to sell.

Maybe take some defensive and performance driving lessons from some pros to improve overall confidence at various speeds.

I don't think your driving skills are developed enough to drive a Zl1. You mentioned accidents, spinning out on gravel, etc. Maybe take a high performance driving class, go to a place where they run autocross and that might help you learn throttle control because as someone else said if you leave the traction control on you should be able to control your Zl1 in almost every situation, not in the rain or on gravel but on dry pavement you shouldn't be scared of the power these cars have stock.

Yeah. OP is in the best age to invest in this, as his fine motor skills are still very easy to improve and hone.

The 4BW addresses a lot of the Camaro complaints around visibility, small trunk opening, unusable back seat (although the 4BW rear seats are pretty tight), high belt line, etc. However, while the LF4 twin turbo V6 feels naturally aspirated and pulls very strong, it lacks the wonderful V8 soundtrack. The 4BW also costs quite a bit more than an SS but you get a lot of the newer tech like the new digital gauge layout, magride 4.0 where you can actually feel difference between the modes, front and rear parking sensors, 6 piston Brembos that have brake by wire settings to set the firmness of the brake pedal to your liking. You also pick up the new V-Mode and MyMode drive modes like the new C8 has. It also rides on 18" Michelin PS4S tires, which are great for the street and cost quite a bit less than the 20" versions. From a driving perspective, it rides on the Alpha 2 chassis and to me it pretty much feels like a more refined Camaro SS with a better driving position and the same Tremec TR6060 gearbox but with the shorter gearing of the SS, which is more fun on the street. If you want the LT4 in a sports sedan you can buy a 5BW but you are looking at $100k and has the same issue as the ZL1 from a power perspective for street driving. Watch this segment of the ICONS video where Jason Cammisa discusses this point as he compares the 4BW to the 5BW. The same can be said when comparing the SS/SS 1LE to the ZL1, or C7 Grand Sport to the Z06, etc. I am not dissing on the LT4, it is glorious, just hard to enjoy on the street.

gankah, ease up on the throttle when driving your ZL1 and have respect for the 650 hp. I drive my ZL1 sensibly but hard sometimes as it’s too easy now to get in trouble with the cops especially in city driving. Kick back in the Recaro seat and let other cars go if you are challenged which I think most of us are when driving around in our ZL1s. Use self control and you will be okay. Good luck!

You sound like you need a sti. Awd and slow enough to not get in trouble on the streets but still a fun car. If you don’t trust what your dealership said about your z burning oil get a second opinion somewhere else

So, how did you wind up with a ZL1 at 19 yrs old? Drug dealer? Rich daddy? Inherited Money? Saving up from mowing lawns at age 12? Curious what you do to afford a $70k car at such a young age.
Clearly, you are too young, inexperienced and intimidated by the car. This is a recipe for disaster. Invest in a performance education session or downgrade to something less intimidating. Your heart might say "I want a v8." But your lack of high hp skill says "I'm better off in a FWD 4banger"

Every car I've had since I was 16 was a V8, for what it's worth.
Granted, I started with 225 hp, then 300, then 400, then 580, then 700, then 800, now back to stock 650. I think 650 is a crazy to start with, but honestly, it feels awfully tame to me now. If you're responsible and have driven your 5.0 successfully, I think it's possible as a 19-yr-old you could handle the Zl1, but you need to (at a minimum) go find a deserted parking lot to learn how to do a burnout, slide the back end of the car, and generally play around to learn what you're doing, and learn how to control the car. Better than that would be a performance driving course, as noted by many here already. The ZL1 can be as tame as a Camry if you want it to be. It's pretty hard to get it to step out of line with all the nannies on, in my opinion. GM did a great job with traction control and stability control.
