ZL1 - Almost uncomfortable?
Hey guys, I’ve made a few posts here. The last ones mentioning the accident(s) I had (hitting a deer in my ss, slick tires hitting a gravel patch spinning out in the z.) As happy as I was to get my car back, I didn’t expect I would feel the way I do now.
I really only drive my truck now. Feels more roomy, safer, etc. Barely drive the Z. My car burns an ABSURD amount of oil. (Please don’t say this isn’t normal. Maybe not for all cars, but my local Chevrolet dealership in Charlotte says for how I drive it is normal. Guess they have a bulletin for what is worthy of repair or not. I never drive the car easy.) I’m always thinking I’m hearing things from the engine but it’s just me over thinking. Also, it may be just because I am 19 years old, but every single time I drive the car I am SO tempted to be stupid. The car gets up to speed so fast that it almost feels uncomfortable to drive it at 45 miles an hour with the urge to constantly downshift and hear all the notes and just go. Also, being so young it’s a big financial responsibility and I feel like the smallest imperfections ruin my whole day. What are your guys’ thoughts on this? |

I drive mine the same way. Love hitting the loud pedal and open it up pretty much every time I take it out. Your dealership is wrong. I don’t have to add any oil between changes.

You should sell the car if you feel like you can't be responsible in it.

Do you have a history of anxiety or thought you should seek help with how you're feeling?

Nah it’s actually pretty tame with the Nannies on. Very manageable under throttle. The only thing that gets me a little is the lateral wobble under WOT at high speed. Beyond that no issue at all for me really.

I drive the hell out of mine. If someone asks me if its ever been raced, the correct answer is "Everytime I press the start button". It uses very little oil, even when I have it on a road course. I'd say less than 1/2 court in 4 or 5 1/2 hour sessions.

Sort of, but I’m not really sure if it’s worth it, I’ve seemed to do all I can in that aspect. It’s more of just be being nervous with getting in trouble which I am sure is normal.

Really? How visible is the oil on the dipstick? For me, I can barely see it, and the oil low light has come on multiple times.

I'm also leaning towards suggesting that you sell the ZL1, especially if you don't even drive it. What you're saying about how difficult it is to stay responsible with all that power makes sense though, I for one also enjoy driving the car slowly and close to the speed limit, but it's true that if you want to enjoy some acceleration and a couple good power shifts on the street, you are at triple digits and in impound territory. I won't even mention your responsibility in not causing accidents, because you already know how serious those can be.
As to oil consumption, that is absolutely not normal, a 6th gen Camaro should burn only a nominal amount of oil (provided the engine was broken in properly), mine burns almost nothing. (Sure, it's an LT1 and not an LT4, but also supercharged.)

If your low oil light is coming on that’s not good. I’d check it real good for leaks and I’d check it more often for sure. |

I agree on the oil part. Might try to get a new LT4 installed (I have like 2-3 aftermarket warranties with the car as well as factory Chevy. I’m just extra cautious with that stuff.) As far as selling it because I don’t drive it, I still put a few hundred miles a week on it. I also have a 10 speed 5.0 and an f150 I drive so it’s just not my main car.
