ZL1 1LE Calipers
Was looking at this eBay posting for ZL1 1LE calipers
https://www.ebay.com/itm/115638474268 But I can’t find anything online on the caliper part number, RF 84229154 Doesn’t match the forum posting either https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=538521 Is it a legit ZL1 1LE caliper? Want to double check since SS 1LE calipers aren’t compatible with the ZL1 |

You know the only difference between the ZL1 and ZL1 1LE brakes is the color and decal?
I know GM changes part numbers from time to time but I had a hard time finding that part anywhere. |

ZL1 and ZLE calipers are the same except the paint. SS1LE are smaller. Good detail here:

As previously noted, The ZL1 and ZLE have the same caliper size. The only difference is the color and script. IOW, they can could be swapped between a ZL1 and a ZLE with no issues. The SS 1LE has a smaller sized front caliper, rotor and different pad shape and different rear brake components. To the OP, I can tell that ebay ad is correct in them saying they are ZLE calipers. All Zl1s come with a different rear caliper, rotor and pad vs the SS 1LE. And at the front, I can see the pad shape. The SS 1LE and ZL1/ZLE have very different pad shapes and the ebay front caliper most definitely contains a ZL1 pad. There is one exception as of the 2022 and newer SS, SS 1LE, ZL1 and ZLE. It is the addition of the BCD Copper Free brake package. The 2022 and up Camaros that have the available copper free package all have the same calipers, rotors, pads, and hoses, EXCEPT for any caliper color and script changes that are related to a specific model or option. EDIT: Another BCD note. The BCD package front calipers, front rotors and front pads are larger than what is found on the ZL1s that have the typical Ferodo HP1000 Package.

The rotor for the SS 1LE is about 1" smaller in diameter which in turn makes the caliper and pads smaller as well. As stated about the new copper free brakes for the 2022 year models and up. I haven't devulgded deeply into that but still. The ZL1 and ZL1 1LE have the same brake setup regardless of it being non copper free or copper free. |

For those using GIRODISC front rotors with ZL1 set up like myself you have to use the same pad that you would use on a SS 1LE because although the overall ROTOR diameter is ALSO 15.35 inches, the actually disc area where the brake pad makes contact is NARROWER to account for the fact that the HAT SIZE is BIGGER on the GIRODISC rotor compared to stock ZL1 rotor. They are Roughly 5 pounds LIGHTER than the STOCK ZL1 rotor. Look at POST 113 where I document that: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=602092&page=9 GIRODISC did this so that they could make their rotor SIGNIFICANTLY lighter than the stock rotor by using a lighter weight material on the rotor hat according to their engineer that helped designed them. I you look at the file below, it will show you the differences in the pad dimensions on the STOCK SS1LE brake pads (1405 shape) vs. the ZL1 brake pads (1395 shape). You will notice that while the width of the pad is about the same (7.46 in vs 7.47 inches) , the actual depth of the PAD is LESS on the SS 1LE pad at 3.66 inches compared to 3.74 inches on the ZL1 PAD. So if you used a ZL1 PAD (1395 Shape) on an SS 1le (1405 shape) setup the INNERMOST portion of the PAD would interfere and make contact with the ROTOR HAT.

Anyone have the Front and Rear Brake Caliper Part Numbers for the "Red" Copper Free ZL1 1LE? 2022+ Cars?
When I look on GM Parts Sites I see notes that say: Except BCD Cars. I am a little confused. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by GMP; 02-20-2023 at 05:43 PM. |

The GM parts sites you are looking at are showing the typical copper content Ferodo HP1000 pad brake system calipers. That is the system that has been offered from day one on the Gen6 Camaros. I have BCD #s, I'll get back to you.
