I see the C8 being fun at first until you get used to the quick shifting DCT and quickness down low but the C8 lacks the ZL1 LT4 pull at higher speeds. The C8 is also less raw and visceral if that matters to you, even the dual mode exhaust option is pretty weak in the C8. The Z06 addresses everything except the manual transmission but at a huge increase in price. As a fun car, I would rather drive something less expensive with a manual transmission. C7 Corvette, Camaro, Miata, GR86, Supra, Nissan Z, etc.

Here’s a local 1LT and 2LT yet to arrive at msrp.
https://www.jimnortonchevy.com/Vehic...model=Corvette That would be much more tolerable (assuming no dealer gouging) added to a ZL1 Last edited by ZR1-OK; 12-30-2022 at 05:19 PM. |

Hi all,
I too would love a C8 Z06, but the sad truth is I feel it is severely overpriced. I saw the pricing of all these type vehicles rising and availability diminishing with the pandemic, and now the recession and supply/demand issues. Even with excellent credit the loan costs have also risen. So for me, barring any major financial changes in the US, I’ll remain very content with my ‘22 ZLE M6. I also believe the low mileage I will have on my ZLE, along with its likely discontinuance, will help keep its value up in the future. Considering these factors, and the lack of a manual transmission, I don’t see a change in store for me. JJ

For $75k (ish) you could have a 2019 C7 Z06, and they come with a manual as well. C&D tested the auto and did 0-60 in 3.0 sec with their old method, which would be 2.9 sec the way they test today (with 1 ft roll out since 2019ish). And it has the LT4. I'd have a hard time spending $85k+ on a C8 knowing for less $ I could have a low mileage C7 Z06 that is faster, looks better (IMO), more powerful, and higher performing.

A hand-built high-revving flat-plane crank engine putting out 670 hp isn’t cheap. Would I like to see the starting price well under $100K? Sure. But in this economy that isn’t happening.

My biggest complaint with the transmission is first and second gears are way too short. GM did this to hit the mark for fuel economy and 0-60 times. I drive my C8 a lot in manual mode. The paddle shifters moving with the steering wheel drive me crazy at times because they'll be in an awkward position to press. I love the Tremec TR6060 in the ZL1. It's the best manual transmission I've driven. As far as reliability, there have been what I think is a high number of issues reported on the Corvette Forum. It seems most issues occur during the initial 1000-2000 miles of ownership and are related to clogged selenoids in the transmission from the clutches during break-in. Chevy says the transmission isn't fully broken in until 7500 miles. Chevy offers a complimentary oil change and transmission filter change at 7500 miles or two years which ever comes first.

hawk02,
I agree that in contrast to the vehicles you earmarked, the BASE C8 Z06 would be a reasonable price. But with the limited production and DEALER PRICE GOUGING that is happening, I feel the price is too high. I shopped around in the areas practical for me to purchase a C8 Z06, and all were either pre-sold to Corvette collectors or severely overpriced by the dealers. One was actually $25k over sticker for a base model. I agree it’s a nice ride. But it would be better for me if it had a good close ratio manual. But as it is now in today’s economy, it’s more cash than I’m willing to outlay. JJ

People were expecting the ZO6 to start at about $90K, then you load it up with options. My configured car with just the competition seats and suede steering wheel is $111K. That's all I'll do because I'm not paying $130K for the ZO7 package. I understand the hand built engine, but GM broke away from what the Corvette ZO6 is about; affordable performance and you can load it up if you want to. The higher than expected price disappointed many. You also can't compare a GM product with the Euros because there's more to a car than pure performance. |

Every deal I made so far when I got there they raised the price. Not 1 Corvette is selling for MSRP unless I order it. Not even used ones, I spent hours calling every dealership in Texas. They would coax me in only to tell me the manager said no.
Saturday I offered 90k on a Convertable with 500 miles, on it. MSRP was 89k, sounded like we had a deal, they just sent me deal sheet and bam 95k and 64k on my car.
