I really don’t care for it either but to each his own.

I get the C8Z is overpriced, but that will change. The market is in the process of correcting itself. Those that live above their means are no longer going to be able to afford the payments at 5-6% interest. The only reason why people were buying them at the rate they were anyway was because they could put 3k miles on a new car then flip it for a profit. That ship has sailed. There are 2 used C8's, a Hellcat, and a GT500 that have been sitting at the local dealership for 2 months now. They have dropped prices 5+k on each car. The 2015 Hellcat only has 11k miles on it and they are down from 59k to 53k and it still sits. The Red C8 was 93k and now it's down to 87k. The GT500 was at 99k now down to 93k. So I would hold off and enjoy what you have because I don't see the 20-25k above MSRP lasting long. More and more people are going to realize the 6th gen ZL1 and C7 Vette were the last of a breed and will become even more desirable. Aside from that the DCT gearing is horrible on both models. Short ratios in the first few gears then hits a brick wall gear worse than the A8. Gm head is clear up their ass when selecting trans ratios. The A10 10l90 is still the best automatic transmission to date.

Very well said. In my mind the 6th gen ZL1 and the C7 Corvette are indeed the last of a breed, whereas the C8 is an "American Ferrari". An absolutely fantastic car, no doubt about that, but too Italian for my taste.

I get that this is a ZL1 forum so I understand all the negative C8 comments. The ZL1 has its “warts” too. No car is perfect or appeals to everyone.
Step back for a minute and understand what GM and Chevy have accomplished here. They have produced a 495 hp mid-engine sports car with a dual-clutch transmission that does 0-60 in three seconds or less and 1/4 mile in the low 11s with a starting price of just over $62,000 dollars. Name another manufacturer that offers anything close to that. Whether you like the car or not, you got to agree that's pretty darn impressive.

Agreed. That's why I said that it's an absolutely fantastic car. There is no doubt about that. I just prefer the looks, the sound, the performance (and all the problems) of the classic, front engine, long hood, rear wheel drive American muscle

Really starting to change my mind on getting a C-8, I rode in my neighbors and as a passenger I can see getting claustraphobic.
I did miss the deal of the year, a guy had ordered a cyber grey 3 LT w/ Z-51 and the salesman called me said he no longer wanted it, they were going to sell it for msrp (85k) he offered 67k on mine and I waited too long, it sold within 4 hrs.

That being said the drive line is weak. The DCT can't handle more then 600whp without needing upgraded clutches. The axles break with stock power on a drag radial. So yea it's a cool car in stock form but a really expensive platform to modify. Axles and clutches alone are 7k. And you still can't tune them without a piggy back or stand alone ECU system. Now look at the ZL1. Everything from the engine to the axles can handle 800 whp reliably. It's a much more robust car. Much easier to modify and make power. I didn't read anybody saying it's not a great car but the ZL1 is a better performance car for the money.

The base Corvette is very good if you look at the technical data. I think GM built it from the ground up to have a wide range of performance without having to modify it much, so with the lowest cost model (Stingray), you're getting a base car that has the chasis for the future ZR1.
I put a deposit on a C8 this year to hedge my bet just in case I don't get a ZLE because the C8 MSRP waitlist is like 12-14 months. I have about another 10 months to go before I have to make a decision on a build. I am also on a waitlist for a ZO6 at MSRP, but the price delta for the 2 cars that I have configured is $36K. While the base C8 is a good performer given its price, I think you really need to throw in about $30K for gear upgrade and force induction. To answer OP's question, the Vette is nice with a base for potential, but the base ZL1 is better. If you're willing to "upgrade" the C8, it can be a monster. |

1 - KERBECK (Now CIOCCA) CHEVROLET - ATLANTIC CITY, NJ 2 - MAC MULKIN CHEVROLET CADILLAC - NASHUA, NH 3 - LES STANFORD CHEVROLET CADILLAC - DEARBORN, MI 4 - CRISWELL CHEVROLET - GAITHERSBURG, MD 5 - BOMNIN CHEVROLET DADELAND - MIAMI, FL 6 - STINGRAY CHEVROLET - PLANT CITY, FL - 235 Now you’ll likely have to wait a year for your Corvette, but they will sell it to you at MSRP.

My two biggest concern with the C8 from watching the corvette forum the past couple years os the DCT still seems to problematic. I am sure it is not as bad as it seems since they are selling over 30k C8s per year but there does seem to be a lot of complaints. The 2nd issue is the lack of a manual transmission for those that enjoy a more connected driving experience. I drove a C8 Stingray Z51 on track and it handled fantastic but after the honeymoon wears off I think I would find it kind of boring.
