Range will not void your warranty, it leaves no fingerprints behind once removed...

does it mess anything up if you leave the range plugged in for weekend drives and then take it out for hi-way drives to get better mpg?

Nope, I even bought a switch off of Amazon so I don't have to keep plugging and unplugging the device...
