But I've been using Touring mode on the highway and the quieter tone isn't a problem. Cruising at 70mph at 1,500RPM while doing 30mpg isn't terrible. Maybe it's the difference of a daily driver vs a weekend driver. I do use Sport mode in town just because of how it sounds. Since I'm following break-in procedures, I'm pretty light-footed now.

Don't get me wrong, the sound is glorious and I smile every time I hear that beautiful V8. I smile every time it starts, and every time it bellows it's luscious tone. My wife and daughters are also in love with how it looks and sounds. We're fans.

If it turns out that AFM reduces reliability and longevity of a daily driver, then I would get the bypass device. There will be 20k miles a year put on this car, I buy cars to drive and I enjoy what I drive.
congrats on getting your new Camaro I'm sure you are going to enjoy it a lot. mine will be a weekend driver since i have a company truck that i drive mostly. for the most part i haven't heard to much bad about the AFM in the Camaros mainly the trucks so we will see how it goes!

Not really, but mine isn't my daily driver, it is my weekend fun car so when I drive it I usually have my foot into it a lot so my MPGs pretty much suck... But when I'm on the highway, I don't notice much of a change in MPGs with or without it, maybe a loss of 1-2 MPGs at most, if that...

I drive about 350 miles/week with mine disabled for over a year now. mpg is the same on pump 93 even with my mods. That being said a lead foot is a lead foot in these cars lol.

Now when I run E85, ya things change which is expected. During the gas price hikes I ran only E85, saved a bunch of money that way so I'm lucky.

Not saying you should get E85 just food for thought as it will void warranty because the car has to be tuned for it.

I also have the Range module but it is disconnected now. I saw a 2mpg difference with AFM on and in my A8 I don't notice it cutting in/out.

Wow, 2 MPG..that’s pretty good. When I tested my 2016 Camaro SS back to back same roads and direction, highway w/ cruise control, my best MPG savings was 0.8 MPG. Although I’m sure a couple of things could have impacted the #’s such as wind speed / direction, OA temperature.

I didn’t try a city comparison, because it didn’t makes sense with stop signs / lights, varying traffic anomalies as well as not being able compare apples to apples the level of aggressiveness on the gas pedal.

That's why the difference. My driving is city and mostly local.

But in city and local driving AFM really shouldn't kick in, it usually disables the cylinders during low power, highway cruising... I never saw mine go into V4 mode around town, it was always on light pedal, highway cruising...

Indeed, afm only impacts highway cruising at light engine load for sustained periods of time. Not generally something you would care about showing off during or paying attention to the engine sound...but rather listening to music or talking to people or cursing at people in front of you for not using cruise control and making you hit the brake.

I would not flat out disable it because while sometimes it's only a little bit of an improvement since v4 mode has it's own range of fuel use...it can be much better than 2mpg and over the life of the car that all adds up if you do a lot of highway driving. I'm lucky with the trifecta tune for the V6, i can toggle it on or off with the mode button the car has. Not sure if such an option exists for the V8, but i would suggest you (the OP) retain the ability to leverage the afm for when you can cuz it isn't going to hurt to do so.

What is the "Trifecta Tune for the V6?" There is nothing of the sort for the V8... No way to turn off AFM short of the Range device or tuning it out (voiding the warranty)...

Mine goes into V4 mode in town, frequently. More so in Touring but also in Sport mode. But I'm pretty steady and light with the throttle. And in my area, "in town" can mean 40-45mph for a mile. But even a half mile at 30 mph it will switch to V4 and fuel econ jumps and stays above 30.

I would say no if you want to keep your warranty but if you aren’t concerned about it then go for it!

From what I've heard the range does not void warranty but will have to look into it more. if I was todo it as of right now that would be they way i went instead of a tune cause I know those do void warranty and i don't want that.
