Yeah, all optional LPOs are more expensive to retrofit, and I think this was specifically kept at a high price because of the low volume and in an effort to preference ZL1 1LE orders.

For me it is a little of both. I definitely prefer the exposed CF insert and if I was ordering a new car it’s an automatic check for the option. But, especially in todays market, if I found a car in stock somewhere on the ground without it……………but I loved everything else about the build and didn’t have to wait/go through the order/delivery bullshit, I’d jump on it.

When ordered the dealer said CF hood scoop was on constraint, so ordered without. About 2 years ago Hendrick was retrofitting the scoop for the HERTZ ZL1, they offered a take-off CF from a new vehicle. You can see if they have any left

But a 600 dollar option to 3k??? I'll certainly take extra care of my insert knowing this now.

Edit: I did also see someone posted another parts place to get it for 1600k. Still seesh.

However - because I saw a comment on the dash pad, I'll add that I found it considerably cheaper to just buy one separately and change it myself. I think it was like half the price of the factory option.

Neither are must haves, but I like looking over, toward the passenger, and then almost anytime out the windshield and seeing the CF. I will admit there was what looked like left-over polish, at the cowl, from the factory/manufacturer, but it rubbed off. I keep it protected, as well as the rest of the car, with some ceramic protection, so I'm not worried about fading.

I would submit a complaint, that probably extends to ALL of these inserts, wherein there are 2-concave-spots, where it seems the insert is adhered to the mounting bracket (underneath the panel, but where it actually attaches to the hood panel). It's like the adhesive dried and pulled the CF down, and is deforming it, in those spots. I registered a complaint with the dealer at my first, and only service visit, but I've seen it on other cars, so I feel like it's not abnormal, so I probably won't push.
I noticed this on mine as well after ceramic coating it....glad to know i'm not the only one.

What HTRDTD said.

Last I checked all of you have ZL1 CF hood inserts. The flawless inserts get painted in clear for an additional charge.

Take the hood insert out and weigh them on a scale for comparison. Bet they weight the same.

No need to weigh them. The painted hood inserts are also carbon fiber. This is a fact.

OP was concerned about the exposed CF insert being less durable than the painted CF insert. And the choice to opt for CF insert or painted insert is an aesthetic decision. No weight savings.

100% correct. And as I stated in my post, the painted mosaic black version matches all the other exterior black painted effects. It looks correct to my eye now after owning both. I had a white 18 with the exposed CF and it was nice. But now I have a 21 shock with the black painted and it just flows with the rest of the exterior bits like the front splitter, side skirts and the rear lower valance.

While I agree with the flow sentiment, the black shows, like any other black, imperfections and swirls marks way more than ecf.

That said, unless you're up close, to me, it doesn't raise a complete stink. All the more reason to add exterior cf bits..

Sorry for the late reply. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow. Their are some slight imperfections. Not noticeable unless you're really looking for them but they are noticeable. Will post pictures tomorrow.

Don't show me then. Lol. The more u search for shit on your car, the more you will find. I've stopped trying to be that way. I've got another car which was featured in a magazine and while I've done a good job of preserving the ol girl, I was ocd about every single thing - wasn't good. I'm trying not to be like that with the Z but at times find myself in the same place. Old habits, you know...
