Don't know about the 6th gen inserts, but on the 5th gen ZL1 inserts, they are ALL carbon fiber, both the exposed and the black ones.

The difference is the exposed carbon fiber inserts have a weave pattern that is perfect. It has to since you can see the weave.

The weave pattern in the black ones don't have to be perfect since the insert is painted, but it's still carbon fiber.

It takes a lot more effort during manufacturing to get the weave pattern perfect and uniform, thus the added cost to get the exposed carbon fiber insert.

Could you possibly take a black painted carbon fiber insert and remove the black paint leaving it exposed? Sure. But there's no guaranty what the pattern of the weave will look like.

Exactly, you are paying a premium for the 'perfect part' rather than just something that comes out 'as is' and is painted over. I optioned for it, one of the few things I paid extra for on the car.

Yes i get ya!,well my insert was black, only when i looked real close i could see the carbon weave, not only that it had some faults in the actual insert,,which makes sense as only the naked carbon ones were of perfect finish,so i thought whats the point of having a carbon insert that dont look like carbon,so i sort of killed 2 birds with one stone,i think it looks great,so im chuffed..also think it would be difficult just to sand that back without destroying the weave. How it looks now is pretty consistent in appearance. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/attac...1&d=1647468561.

You did a great job wrapping that, looks very good. Excellent work and good for anyone else thinking they may want to change up the look without buying a new insert.

When I ordered mine, they were on constraint. I found a takeoff from Hendricks Motorsport that I am pretty sure we’re taken off for the updated Hertz ZL1s. Those cars needed a different hood scoop because Hendricks put in a bigger SC to make 700 HP
