That's the craziest part about this new law, is there any place to read how exactly their enforcing this or if it's by flash counts? Who knows!

Yes, i know people personally who have smogged cars that previously had been tuned.

also if you look online, there are lots of forum discussion on this with people's concerns ahead of smogs, etc, and positive feedback after successful smogs.

yes, there is info as to how this works if you google it. they use a check sum. if any data in the stock tune is modified the check sum value returned is different.

The CAL ID and CVN just has to be unaltered from factory form, correct?
I understand piggyback units do not change not change those but I believe a complete rewrite may let's say with hp tuners will.

No sure on the first line.

piggybacks are fine from what i have read, but, if the tech realizes you have something that changes tunning on your car you will fail.

I've been modifying cars here in CA since 1997 - had over 40 different cars now, with the oldest being a 93 Supra. I've NEVER had an issue smogging any of them, and I'm not alone. I know that among car guys, CA has a bad rep (or a good rep, if you care about the environment, lol), but things really arent super difficult here. Maybe they are compared to Texas or Florida, but like I said, when it comes down to it, I've never had an issue enjoying the car hobby here in this state.

Please share with us your wisdom. because i have had to pay $500+ for a under the table smog... but in recent years since they started cracking down on smog techs, people would kill for $500 under the table smogs. Everyone has a friend until someone actually needs one.

other option is to put back to essentially stock for smog. can you do long tubes or cam? not really. now you cant even run a tune without flashing back to stock.

i guess you could also only buy cars brand new, and keep them for under 6 years. spend thousands of dollars on parts you probably cant transfer to a different platform.

so maybe, you are registering your car in a county that does not have tough smog laws (nowhere close to the bay area or LA), have a buddy who hooks you up with smog, or your idea of modifying cars is wheels, an axle back, and an intake. then yea maybe CA is not that bad.

please also tell me how awesome CA gun laws are.

I don't care about owning guns, so I'm all for strict gun laws. However, I didnt mention anything about that in my post. We're focused on the smog situation here, which I've never had any issues dealing with. I've run hi-flo cats on numerous applications when the laws were a bit more lax, but now I will just swap parts back and forth, like you mentioned, if/when I need to smog and can't find a friendly ref. Over the past decade or so, I've owned new cars that I only keep for a couple years. I still have to smog when I sell, so I just replace the emissions stuff for the smog, or sell to someone out of state.

That’s what I heard also…
Surly a dealership and reflash with the original tune with matching CVN number?
I called my local dealer but they didn’t know what I was talking about 😔

Hreat build sir! With everything you have done to your car I would expect more than 750whp. Was this tuned conservatively?

Thank you sir... you are correct, the 750rwhp number is not only with a conservative remote tune by JRE, but I had belt slip on that pull, that lost me about 1 - 1.5 pounds of boost over 5K... Belt slip has been fixed... would love to take it back to the dyno but been busy.

My next round of mods will include a rotofab BG, Katech Lowside Dual Drop In's (once they have a PnP harness) and a larger lower pulley to bump the boost another pound or so... maybe to 15psi...

Depending on when the PnP harness comes out, I may not re-dyno until thats all done. Stay tuned
