You guys, it was my Service Advisor that told me NOT to change it ASAP.... not me. I should have clarified that more. I was told they're pretty sure it's the lifters, but she told me it's a risk to open a sealed engine... she told me what happens if we open it up, replace those lifters and it still isn't right? The engine might not ever be the same.

It's just barely screwed up right now.

I would be concerned if they open up engine, replace parts and its WORSE than before. wtf.

Seek a second opinion. Many of those shops have mics they can place on engine to determine source/cause of the noise.

Jeez.......find another dealer asap. That's the dumbest advice I have ever heard. If its lifters get it fixed NOW. Waiting is insanity......

I wanted to clarify somethings that I didn't even know. I made this post in the moment of being upset and probably making it sound misleading. I didn't have the paperwork from my visit yet.... but:

Basically the noise that I thought was the lifters going bad is SO mild, it's too inconclusive at this time for the tech to diagnose it as anything wrong. They offered to change the lifters because it was the most logical thing... but again, at that point we're just throwing parts at it.

Yeah, the fuel injection system can make some odd noises...

It's true AFM lifters are less reliable but I really don't hear much about them failing.

@thegoat I think that was valve springs?

That's a big problem too... I have kinda confused some people including myself in the past confusing DI fuel injection noise for other things too. If you have it at just the right RPM level with light throttle.... in a garage or area where sound can reflect off it, you can be misled very quickly by what your ears are hearing.

I thought the fix for weird engine noise was to turn the knob by the stereo clockwise until the engine noise disappears. Then when your eject a piston in 9,000 pieces you have GM warranty the motor.

Hold up. . . So at first you were bashing GM for a issue that potentially doesn't even exist? Sounds like the dealer is the issue, not GM. As others have mentioned, I also recommend visiting another dealer.

Every manufacture has issues (pitfalls). GM has made significant improvements to each generation of AFM.

I agree this thread is a mess and it’s my fault for posting without all the information needed. I sort of misunderstood what my dealer was telling me. Sorry for the mess you guys, it is completely my fault. If a mod is around, I’m totally fine for deleting this thread if possible. Sorry to waste your time everyone and thank you for the time you did spend replying back to me.
