However, I'm really not qualified to render an opinion on it. My car has a 5/18 build date.
The part your holding is not the part that fails. What fails is the slider (rotor housing).

I'm curious if there have been any failures on supercharged LT1's. I believe the pumps are the same. I'm not certain that the part numbers are the same, but they're definitely the same design.
Intuitively, it would seem that blown LT1s would see more failures as the crank snout is not as robust. Lots of guys are also running more boost than a stock ZL1, which would seem to exacerbate the problem. The original oil pump on my 32k mile (FI for20k) LT1 has been flawless.

I am replacing mine just as a insurance policy…… anyone replace the timing chain guide? I have seen where people are saying they are also causing issues?

Mine let go when I was FBO and doing some tuning for Pray. Had just under 10k miles on it. So I'm not sure if having a blower really has anything to do with it.

Seems that most failures reported on the forums are LT4s. Even so, I believe most would agree that the oil pump is the Achilles heel on all LT motors.

I also had Ted replace mine with the 2019+ one that has a different part number, just as cheap insurance. There was nothing wrong with the old one, it held perfectly at 0, 7 and later 10psi of boost, but I figured since they're in the motor (again, no thanks to GM), I might as well request the new one.

Needless to say, I'm going to install a new pump when I put my motor back together. Not sure if I'm going with the Katech or the latest part # GM pump.

That makes sense. Either way, I'm hoping Katech did their best when designing their pump.

I really didn't feel like going through 65 pages haha! Has anyone narrowed down the affected build dates? My car has 12/17 as the build month/year.

Your car falls with the time frame of those reported in this thread.

My build date is 11/17. It's right in the window for oil pump failures. But only 2750 miles so probably not the best data point. I might never see a failure just by lack of use.

It would be nice if GM extended the warranty on the oil pump. They did that on the early Gen 2 CTS-V superchargers that had issues. There are other examples. Am I asking too much? I know somebody will say yes

My understanding is this oil pump is the same one used on the LT truck engines etc. If there were a batch of parts failing it would be across several platforms.

I’m right there with you on that build date. Mine has not failed ( only has 2600 miles on it). I do however have it scheduled to go into a private shop a close friend of mine owns to have a Katech pump installed. Hopefully get it done in February some time.
