One of the reasons I went with an SS was the limiting options for upgrades and aftermarket parts the LT1 has. It really is an LT trim car with a V8 shoved in it. This means upgrades and parts made for the SS most times will not work on the LT1.

Hmm, I wasn’t aware of that. Are there specific parts you were thinking to add to the SS that won’t fit the LT1?

And thanks for posting those pics...I love the early 2nd gens, still probably my favorite Camaro.
Motion Performance. Now that's a name from the past. Joel Rosen was THE guy for fast cars on the island.

Things like the rear brake caliper can not be upgraded because the electric parking brake is for an LT trim. Seats can not be swapped with other trims because of electrical harnesses are not the same for each trim model. I think some performance parts are also limited because they do not line up with an LT trim. These are just a few examples off the top of my head

There is a reason when you visit a website for parts that you select LT, SS, or ZL1 trim. the LT1 is not an SS trim and has the same issues other LT trims have for parts -- mostly that few aftermarket companies make parts for that trim level.

I would think the only issues would be the interior things you mentioned and some body stuff. Performance wise, at least engine related components, the LT1 is the same as the SS.

I'm modifying my car and I haven't ran into any problems yet, full carbon fiber lip kit for the SS, fit my LT1, all the exhaust and engine modifications I'm looking to do are for the 6.2 V8 so they shouldn't have a problem fitting the LT1.

Personally I'm glad they released the LT1 trim, as I mentioned, and a few others have, not everyone wants to or desires to track their car. Some of the convenience options should have been available for the LT1 and that is where I think Chevy went wrong. They tied all the convenience stuff into the track oriented 2SS.

Depends if you can deal with the ugly Jacko Lantern style 6 banger grill. Not sure why Chevy just didnt go with the SS style grill across all models.

I went back and forth on this for months and last March I left with a Black on Black LT1 with 10 kms on it from the dealer. No Regrets at all. Only options were the 6-speed, NPP and a sunroof which I could have done without. I was happy to get it, shortly after that, there was not one to be had new here in Ontario. I am not a hardcore racer or drag guy, but do enjoy getting on it when need be. Love it when cars pull up beside me thinking I have the V6 or 4 Cyl. As soon as I give it a little RPM and they hear the exhaust, they quickly look away....LOL
I also have a 2002 SS 6-speed with T-tops show car, so I really did not need another SS.

A few pics of both cars and my wife checking out the new LT1, She's also a 6 speed driver from europe...

Cheers,

Jason

Yep, I knew about the LT1 rear calipers.. seats are kind of a non issue. If you don’t like the cloth seats, either get the Recaro's as an option, or move up to a 2SS (cheaper overall, cleaner).

I do question the LT1’s ability to handle SC boost, in particular sustained cooling through that bumper. I’m waiting for someone to post that they’ve successfully done it (may have been done, just haven’t seen it).

Thank you both. The "other" car is my 1973 Z-28 with 49k original miles. Hoping to get the gauge cluster back into her this weekend and take her for a spin. The pandemic has been a nightmare for getting replacement parts for classic cars, if you're lucky, its in stock, if not, its 3-9 months until it arrives.

I have been pulling my hair out going back and forth too trying to decide between an SS or LT1. There is a problem now; there are none to be found and if you manage to find one dealerships are sticking hard to $1500-$5000 addendum (dealer mark-up, FL).

So I found an awesome looking LT1 with some options I don't want to pay for, but the car is built and in transit. $43,170 for a Black LT1; It has dual mode exhuast, RS/Redline packages, technology w/Bose, black Strut tower brace, A10 transmission.

When the numbers games are all over after giving me $6000 more than my trade is worth and marking up their car $1800 over sticker, I'm actually paying $42,000, financing $17000@1.9%.

Don't know if I'm a fool for paying that much, or these are now the times we are in and it's all relative and might not go back.

So that $43,170 they want for an LT1 will get you a 1SS with NPP and MRC, and you will still have money left in your wallet. Do as many of us on here have done and order a car built to your specs (be that an LT1 or an SS). Many dealerships are charging MSRP for ordered cars. The only drawback is you have to wait for the car to be built. Remember, the LT1 is suppose to be a cheap V8. If you are not getting the thing cheap, why get it? If you are gonna pay SS money, get an SS. If you are paying more than that, don't get a new car right now.

This is exactly what I’m looking at, I had it in my mind to get an LT1, but unless it’s completely barebones, the cost difference isn’t enough versus a 1SS. I built out a 1SS yesterday, sunroof, NPP, Recaro’s, for the same price as some LT1’s I’ve been seeing. So I am going to go the route of ordering myself. For me it’s exciting to choose that route and getting a car that is built with what I want rather than wasting thousands on options a dealer put on a their car I don’t care about while that car lacks options that I’d want. I’m good with whatever time it takes to get built.
