I fully understand that the 1LE is the best overall “performance” value, if you plan to go the track. I owned a ZL1, so I get where you’re coming from. However…someone like me, that won’t be hitting the track, see’s no real value in a lot of the items above. Believe me, I wanted to check the 1LE box.. I really like the look, more than some of the goodies. IE Not a fan of the suede, leather and bolsters (although, very comfortable once planted) would rarely, if ever utilize the ELSD’s capabilities (at speed), could take or leave the NPP (prefer AWE), don’t need massive / very expensive brakes, I never fully got used to / utilized the heads up display (superfluous).I did struggle with whether to get the mag ride or not.. extra coolers for the street are overkill. I like the hood wrap… but on someone else’s car. I’ll give you the blade spoiler, as the stanchion spoiler or no spoiler (in my opinion) is ugly as hell. I sprung for the blade spoiler.

If you’re straight up just driving on the street (which 90+% of people do) The LT1 is best bang for the buck. Let’s say the 1LE and the LT1 square off at a set of lights…it’s basically a tie (other than summer rubber) all this performance for perhaps 23% less dough. Again I get it, different story at the track.

I think if you add up the components of the 1LE on a SS individually, it was well over $11k MSRP on a 2022, which makes the 1LE package one of the very few packages where it actually pays to bundle.

I agree.. I looked at that as well. If I was tracking, I wouldn’t consider anything else for the $.

My thoughts too. And for me, all that extra stuff, wheels, spoiler, splitter, mag ride would have been taken off.

For someone like me that just wanted a V8 and manual the LT1 was perfect. All the extra exterior stuff and some interior stuff of the 1LE or SS would be wasted considering I plan on changing all that stuff.

Not a track person and never going to take my car to the track.

- The FE4 suspension in the 1LE and ZL1 feels much more buttoned down than the FE3. I just prefer that tighter feel. It felt very similar comparing a C7 Base suspension vs. C7 Grand Sport or Z06.

- Even though the 1LE is a designated as a track package it does bring along a lot of the visual appeal. Front splitter and blade spoiler. The wheels are probably the best in the Gen6 lineup and you get a wider tire setup which looks more aggressive. The 6-piston brakes may be overkill for the street but they come painted and offer great pedal feel. The hood wrap is cool but can be a bit of a pain to maintain. You could peel it off if you hated it. The suede is a nice touch but not really needed. The HUD is cool. NPP at a minimum so you can at least hear the exhaust.

My two cents: I really like the LT1, and was seriously considering configuring a base V-8, but the thing that kills it for me is the blind-spot warning feature only available on the 2LT, 3LT, and 2SS trims. I'm on my second 2LT, and frankly, as much as I love my Camaro, driving in traffic and only having the small side mirrors to rely on is a gamble...way too much chance that someone is going to be sitting in your (considerable) blind spot and you just won't see them until its too late. To me, it really should be a feature on every trim above the 1LT. Of course, I own a couple of 2nd gen Camaros, and the side mirrors on those things were basically the same (or smaller) then the 6th gens, but at least that generation had a functional rear window.

Agreed, the rear view mirror camera is pretty nice on the 2SS and ZL1 trims. When you combine the blind spot monitoring with wide angle rear camera visibility is suddenly better than any other vehicle. You go from seeing a single lane behind you to like 4 wide. It is very cool when cruising down the highway and you see all the lanes behind you in a single view.

Not meaning to derail the thread but the 70-73 rear window wasn’t great either.

The trunk was worse. I too owned and drove many gen2 when I was first starting life. Neither of those considerations crossed my mind when buying them

I agree it isn't great, but its at least usable. I have a secret weapon though on my Baldwin Motion '71 Camaro, the exhaust and sound from my side pipes can bounce off of a car in my blind spot, letting me know its there.

And thanks for posting those pics...I love the early 2nd gens, still probably my favorite Camaro.

Pictures ...please!

Regarding bouncing the sound form your side pipes. I did a similar thing last Sunday when a guy in a Turbo VW Bug was hanging in my blinds spot boxing me into the left lane. I kept lifting off the throttle so he could enjoy my exhaust crackle from his open window. He sped up and let me out.

I posted this pic a few months ago in the Street Machines of the 70s Facebook group I'm in. I'm going to wash, claybar, and polish her up this weekend.
