I have Allstate for all my insurance, including my Camaro. I have been told about no changes to anything about the insurance I carry.

Sorry, but no... "Normal" and "surrounding vehicles" are not the same thing.

You should be shopping your insurance every time your policy is up for renewal, every 12 months at the most. Business will offer you the best rates to get you in the door, then creep your costs up over time. And ridiculous marketing terms like "disappearing deductible" and similar make no sense when you realize you're being charged to participate in those programs (at least Progressive is reasonably up front that you MUST opt-in and pay a fee when you click the link in their marketing to learn more).

Five years ago, I was paying around $1600/year to insure a brand new Traverse and Silverado. Now, I pay around $1900/year to insure the same Silverado plus my Camaro, plus a 2017 RDX Tech AWD. I dropped Travelers like a bad habit when my agent kept trying to feed me a line of crap about minimum insured values for my house and moved ALL of my insurance policies elsewhere.

Whatever dude I'm not going to keep arguing. I got my discount and that's all that matters to me. I posted my thoughts on the whole thing if you don't like it oh well that's on you.

i use state farm. the only claim i've had was on my house a few years ago. been with them over 20 years. i had 0 issues & they were very easy to deal with. i've paid witness to dads use of them on a couple of his car claims over the years with the same result. easy, no hassle.

i know i'm paying more vs other agencies, but knowing it's not going to be a hassle when i need it is worth every penny.

And, since Chevrolet seems to also keep track of you via their app, they might know our every move.

I'm with USAA and my brand new Camaro LT1 costs less to insure that our 2.5 year old Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Similar annual mileage listed with insurer.

It is not all of Allstate's policies. It is their Milewise product you use the plug in. They do have the app if you want for other products, but I don't use it. If you read your policy, they can not deny an accident because you were speeding, ran a red light, drunk ..... just intentional acts here in Texas.

The original post (the one behind the WSJ paywall) was saying that Allstate is trying to get state regulators to make it allowable for insurance companies to use the monitors to set your rates, instead of them using your credit rating. That's a very different animal than the current "reduce your rate" plug ins that several companies use (which is what the second link the OP posted was referring to). And if they succeed, then you can expect other insurers to start doing the same thing.

However, the hope would be that the state regulators won't allow this because of the data and privacy concerns. Maybe it will vary by state if it ever comes to pass.

Interesting, but I think they would lose even more market share if they made that a requirement. I could see all the other insurer's commercials already. It would have to be all companies or none. IMO.

I noticed when I bought my used 2016 2ss last year my insurance was $5 than my 2012 Mustang GT despite it being worth more.
