A mid-engine car has rather static design elements. There’s only so much you can do with those elements. No matter how it was designed, it was going to resemble another manufacturer’s mid-engine sports car. You can say the same about the Ford GT. In ways, it resembles a Ferrari. It just happens to cost about the same so no one criticizes it look. As far as the Porsche, a used GT3 is still going to set you back $150-200K unless you get one that is older than 10 years. That’s significantly more than a brand new C8. I will agree that ZL1 is the best bargain in the Chevy performance line but a well equipped C8 coupe isn’t going to cost that much more. Maybe mid to upper $70K. The problem with the Camaro is it gets the Corvette’s and Cadillac’s hand me down technology. Other than the DSSV shocks on the 1LE, everything else (chassis, engine, mag ride) all appeared in the the Cadillac or Corvette first. The Camaro will always be the bastard-step child of the Chevy performance division. In a way that’s good because it brings down the cost. I could give a rats ass that no other cars will play with my Corvette. That never was on my list of reasons for purchasing a C8. My top three reasons for buying the car were mid-engine design, hardtop convertible, and affordable. I think I got a heck of a lot of car for the money and that’s all I care about. Why go for a C7 Z06? If you’re going to buy a Vette, go for the big dog ZR1? Why half-step with the Z06 and all its heat issues?

My C8 is a non-Z51 with performance exhaust and mag ride shocks (FE2 suspension) and the ride and handling is fantastic. My ZL1 feels like I’m driving a truck. Lately I’ve been driving it in Tour instead sport to soften the ride a little. I don’t know if the mag ride shocks are starting to fade or what. I’m just a little shy of 13,000 miles on my ZL1 so you would think the shocks have a little left in them. I’m driving on PS4S tires with probably 7000 miles on them. They’ve gone through four winters so maybe the compound is starting to go. Who knows. But the ZL1 definitely rides rough compared to the C8.

I sort of like the rear. I think it holds it own with the C7 and Ferrari.

I now also have a Corvette as well as my ZLE and will 100% god willing trade this Corvette for a C8 when I fully retire in a few years. I like the new styling and are hoping for a used Z06 if that happens. If not I would be more then happy with a Z51. My buddy just received his 2021 and it’s amazing.

My dealer had one they just sold for 72k plus some change. It was a 2lt so that dealer is going to F someone in the end and they'll end up taking a big shit for 120k. Ridiculous for sure.

Seen quite a few C8s here in SoCal. It looks pretty damn good. As far as the C7 looking better....LOL.

With a high level driver behind the wheel of the C8 Z51 vs the latest gen ZLE, no matter what the track, the ZLE will be faster. I totally agree that with average track day driver skills the C8 Z51 will be faster most likely. Throw in some rain and i’d give more advantage to the C8. Once the C8 Z06 hits, it’ll be game over for the ZLE. But I think the entry point for a C8 Z06 will be around $125k MSRP. most people won’t be cross shopping cars with double the MSRP. look at the difference (even though this is VIR, it’s not the standard Full track, which is very high speed. This is the Grand Course, which is a mile longer and adds many tighter turns, making handling a fairly high priority.) 17th vs 30th.

I don’t base sales on the product, Dodge markets the sh!t out of the muscle car lineup. I own a charger and unfortunately it’s junk. My opinion based on ownership. I own a Ford, Chevy and Dodge.

Wow interesting to see in the C&D VIR lap times:
1- The Corvette C7 Z06 matches the lap times of the Shelby GT500 CFTP 2- The Camaro ZL1 1LE matches the FORD GT and Ferrari 488 lap times. 3- Corvette C7 Grand Sport faster than the Corvette C8 Z51 and very close to catching up with previous Porsche GT3 and GT3RS. 4- Corvette C8 Z51 faster than the Ferrari 458 and Camaro ZL1 5. Camaro ZL1 faster than Porsche Cayman GT4

Dont forget to factor in tires used per application. That can change a lot, never know which cars had stickier tires than others. |

I have owned a corvette for many years, C5- C7. I still have a 2017 Grand Sport that I put a stage two Edelbrock in it. Love the car! I have test driven the new C8 Z51 and yes it handles different than my C7 GS but it not better. Sorry... I'm a diehard corvette fan but the C8 has lost what made Corvette Americas sport car, the price. Base model C8's selling for 110K to 120K is ridiculous this is no unicorn. At a recent C&C event the lot was full of new C8's yet there was only one ZL1 and two ZLEs out of maybe 300 cars that were there.
I as well would never purchase a base anything, when the first C7 came out and all the fan boys jumped I said I'll pass. When the Z06 came out it got my attention but then the issues with cooling started to surface so I waited. When the Grand Sport came out I fell in love and traded my C6 GS. No regrets. If you want a base C8 just relax and wait a year or even two, depending on the economy and you will get them for sticker or even less. As for waiting for a C8 Z06 you may be waiting a long time with the current move to push us all to drive an appliance. If it does come expect the price to be north of $150K to start and that is 911 territory
