Ford knows how to market the Mustang. As much as I do not buy in the marketing stuff like that, I wish GM put the effort in for the Camaro.

This car is what the PP2 Mustang GT should have been, at $50K.
That bold part.

It is like BMW they have a good marketing group that show images to women and when they like it they build it. Lexus is the same way and now Kia/Hyundai/Genesis.

You need that other demography to survive.

Maybe over dramatic, but still true. GM would consider this car a sales flop at current volumes. It started ok, but GM did not plan on selling the car at 10 jobs per hour. Sadly as awesome as it is, GM would likely consider the entire Alpha architecture a complete and utter disaster.

Most cars that succeed at this or even lower volumes used tooling strategies intended for low volume, sell at a higher transaction price or have global volumes driving the scale or share enough components with other models to share tooling and manufacturing costs.

The Camaro is now selling just above the volumes when it was cancelled 20 years ago. The difference is the CT4 and 5 share the cost of the plant.

There is a reason the Corvette has been plastic all these years.

Finally saw a Mach 1 in the wild today driving to my shop today on the highway.

Personally, I'm not impressed with the look of the car. Looked like a regular GT with some stuff tacked on and not even much faster than a regular GT.

I would take a cheaper 2ss all day everyday over a mach 1.

I thought the Mach 1 was ugly too.

I liked the Mach 1 better than the Terminator back in 2003/2004/2005?

I've said it before. Ford really struggles to compete in the sports car area.

Now, they have some great ones, the GT350, the Mach 1, the GT500. They have done some good ones in the past too.

The problem is the Mach 1 should have been right there with the SS 1LE when the SS 1LE came out. Ford has always been lagging behind. Chevy got real serious roundabout the time that the Zeta chassis started being used, cars like the CTS-V, C7 variants, SS, C5 SS/ZL1/1LE/Z28, and so on. Ford's stuff never measures up at the same time and long down the road, they eventually catch up. The fact that Ford has been selling V8 mustangs with 255 tires is just a travesty. They just don't take it as seriously as Chevy and if you are really in it for performance, as most purists are, the choice has been pretty easy.

The PP2 really started to get into serious territory and that just continued with the Mach 1, but these cars/packages should have been available all along. Chevy broke the mold of "straight line performance" quite a while back, but it really seems like Ford has struggled to do so. I'm not sure if even Chevy will continue with it in the long run, since 95% of people that buy these cars are still interested only in straight line type stuff, but in recent history they have done a lot better at making the rounded cars that are just great performance cars all around. It shouldn't have taken ford 4-5 years to match up.

2003, 2004 Mustangs were turds.

I can't believe the 1999 to 2002 Mustangs far outsold the Camaro and Firebird for being slow compared to the power of GM.

I had a 1999 Mustang GT. Bu the time it hit 45,000 miles it was a total POS.

I also had the faulty intake manifold. Mine warped from the heat. Ford would only cover it if it was cracked from heat.

Remember, there was a lawsuit over this.

it only had 60k miles when I traded it in. POS. Headliner was falling off, AC went out, tranny was having issues, paint flaking like crazy, etc.

It had 30k miles on it used. Again, total POS.

Sounds like it had the same issues the 6th gen has now. A8 problems, ac cooling fans going out, Axle shafts coming undone etc. The 03 and 04 Terminator is still a nasty car and is still sought after even with it being over 15yrs old.
