Trunk fuse box water damage
Hello so my trunk got water inside and burned the fuse box and the cables and fuses are gone! I got a new fuse box but still need to get the wires anyone knows where’s could be my best bet to purchase them! My car is a 2016 2ss 6 speed
Also the guy was not flooded the water might’ve came in from the sunroof or from the taillights Thank you in advance! Last edited by Jess07; 06-02-2021 at 06:03 AM. |

How do you intend to replace the wiring? These three connectors are part of the body wire harness that would be incredibly difficult to replace. Since this is a somewhat common problem where many others have had water in their trunk, maybe others can chime in with how you can go about saving the wiring. Obviously anything short of a complete replacement is risking problems down the road as corrosion eats away at the wiring, but I honestly have no clue what other suitable alternative there is.
I would recommend replacing the three connectors at a minimum (de-pin the connectors, inspect the leads for any corrosion, and reinstall each wire into a new connector). I could only find part numbers for the two larger connectors, if you go that route: 13594678 and 13594679. |

dealer is your best bet for the correct wiring harness
wrecking yard if you want to take a risk that it is OK and correct for your car. If the car flooded, you've most likely got other issues too. good luck

Buy the tool to release the male terminals but it looks like you only have 5-10 wires to repair. you can buy lettering and numbering kits to label the wires so you don't get them mixed up. I would use a good dielectric grease when reassembling.

it's not a common problem obviously.
this is the first person since the start of the 6th gen model that I've ever seen on this forum who has managed to flood his fuse box without the car itself being flooded. Regarding the op: It's a shame everything car manufacturers use is custom one-off built stuff like these wiring harness connectors and you can't just goto some molex manufacturer website and order the connector and good luck ordering the connector without the entire wiring harness from the dealer. You'd have better luck going to junk yards and asking if you can cut the connector off of one you find there and then re-doing your car. However, the melted fuse area makes me think you'll want to also junk yard the entire fuse box too. and just swap in your stuff to the donor (since fuse locations aren't populated if you dont have the options and vice versa). The junk yard is your friend here. Trying to get this stuff "new" is going to be a crazy high price. |

This is often talked about and argued for the reason, but I think most people find it comes down to a problem with the rubber seal going around the trunk-to-decklid interface. Usually something causes this to be compromised. Often, the cause is the wire harness going from the trunk to the decklid, that many people have found gets pinched between this seal when the decklid closes, and creates an opening for water to drain in to the trunk.
Solutions range from replacing the seal if it is damaged or creased from the harness, adjusting the harness so it doesn't "flex" the wrong way and get pinched, or just keeping an eye on the harness when you go to shut the decklid to make sure it doesn't get pinched. |

Hah, i stand corrected. Never noticed the posts up there with any other chronic issues. Sounds like it's a flip between poor rear window seal (which is allowing water to drain directly into the trunk (which has no/inadequate drainage holes) to the trunk seal being bad. If either of those were the case and the water damage to this fuse box wasn't caused by some kind of direct in-trunk spill, then that would be what I would suggest get fixed before even caring about replacing the fuse box and connectors or it'll just happen again. |

This just happened to me. I had about an inch of water in my trunk. So far the fuse box seems fine but my amplifier has been causing me issues. It's definitely corroded.

Who thought it was a good idea to put a fuse block in the lowest part of the truck, or in the trunk at all..

Most of your concern looks like the fuse block itself, and the blue connector. Personally, I would replace the fuse box and the plastic for the blue connector.
You can release each of the pins on the connector with a molex tool. It appears that there is a reasonable amount of loose wire to work with, so a good method is to release a pin, ensure it's clean, and move it to the correct spot in the new connector. This helps prevent mixing up wires. If any of the wires in the upper left have compromised insulation, clean the connector, and use thin heat shrink tubing on the affected area, ensuring there is still room for fit and proper pinning into the connector. Best of luck on all this. Hope it all turns out well for you. You can pull, clean, and reinstall the pins on the other connectors also, to be sure you have solid connections. |

Dang, that's scary. I did not realize this is a potential issue. Why would GM not have put a drain hole or something right there? Maybe it wouldn't hurt to do that on your own. Get a good rubber grommet, drill a hole, touch it up with paint so it won't rust, put a rubber grommet in the hole. Ever do get water at least it has a place to drain out. I don't know, but what a stupid place to put a fuse box.
OP, I'm with the others. Buy the fuse box, get a new connector and de-pin them and put them into the new connector. |
