Costco has a 5w-30 Dexos that is dumb cheap. Pennzoil has a great 5/30 Dexos that's $20 for 5 quarts. Even Super Tech 5-30 is Dexos at Walmart. I'm not sure why so many get hung up on 0-40 Mobil 1 ESP. The guys at two different dealers I went to acted like I had to run that stuff. THEY don't even read the owner's manual or know the alternatives per GM. Pretty sad.

it is a truck motor. i think "very high performance" is a stretch. the long block is exactly the same as what you'd find in a 6.2 chevrolet truck. same heads, camshaft, crank etc etc. the intake manifold on the cars is actually worse than what comes on the trucks. the engines make way more tq than hp, peak hp early and then immediately fall off, making 40 whp less by the time it reaches the factory engine speed governor. high performance engines don't do any of that. its a truck motor made for pulling trailers that should've gotten a lot of different parts when it was put in cars.

Think again... The LT1 motor started life in the 2014 Corvette and made it's way into the Camaro SS in 2016. It was later reconfigured for use in other vehicles.

You bought a $45k-$50k car and you are worried about saving $50 on an oil change a couple times a year??? Really??? Maybe you should have bought a Hyundai Elantra... (A VERY good car, BTW... But Synthetic Oil changes are about $30 or so...)

it was GMs solution to the issue of building several different motors. it was also in trucks in 14, suvs etc. its a truck motor regardless of what chassis its in. "very high performance" is a na 300" v8 motor that makes the same or more power, has a factory 7500 rpm rev limiter, 4 valves per cylinder...need i go on? its not a "high performance" engine. the lt1 makes less power than its domestic competitors.

I know, right? I drank the kool-aid on the 0-40 when all the hype started a few years ago. It was almost impossible to find then. Since I don't track I went back to 5-30. I only change once per year and Deacon Jones over in Smithfield lets me provide my own oil and filter for the change.
