2016 SS Shift to Park message and won't start
Ok so we have been dealing with this issue for about 2 weeks or so now. I drove the car to work one day and when I went to leave it wouldn't start and the dash had the "Action Required: Shift to Park" message.
We have replaced the shifter because that seems to be a common issue and that didn't fix it. Then we replaced the fuse block on the battery and that didn't fix it so we replaced the TCM and still same thing. Traced wires and plugs and found nothing out of the ordinary so we are at a loss. We just towed it to the dealer that acted like they didn't want to touch a modified car. Anyone have any ideas on this? I have no faith in the dealer repairing a modified car and have a feeling we are going to have to fix it ourselves. |

What if you put the car in neutral? Will it start then? Possibly have to engage the parking brake as well? I think all of my automatic's have been able to start while in neutral in the past, though I've never tried it with a vehicle with push-button start.
It would -seem- as though some sort of sensor is not picking up that the transmission is in park, but I haven't a clue whether that sensor is a physical one that detects the position of the shift lever, something within the transmission, or maybe even both (to detect neutral). |

Any chance that a wire underneath the car got pinched or too close to heat and melted? Maybe a bad pin in a connector on the shifter?
Here are a few threads with the same problem. You’ve tried most of the suggestions but maybe they will help you fix yours. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=553306 https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=556720 https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=566039 |

Well the dealership said it is a wiring issue and will be about 6 hours of labor to fix. Not sure exactly yet but I'm betting something rubbed up against something and is exposed now or something melted against the turbo manifolds.

I had a similar problem and saw that the defroster light was lit while sitting there trying to figure out what to do... turned it off and everything returned to normal. Has not reoccurred.

Just for the next person to run into this a ground had rattled loose on the back of the driver's side head. The ground is shared by the ECM and TCM and neither had a ground and caused the issue.
