I followed the high performance break in as specified in the performance supplement.

First oil change at 500 miles (it was really 607), second oil change and diff change at 1500 (1504 to be exact).

I do intend to track, so I wanted to be sure that warranty is intact!

If not tracking I would have followed the "regular" break in as specified in the manual.
Is it all necessary? Maybe not, but I prefer to error on the side of caution. Fluids are very cheap insurance IMO

THIS. I used to work at a Sears Auto back when that was a thing, and when a car would come in where it was clear the last oil change was jacked up (usually cross-threaded drain bolt, wrong amount of oil, double-gasket on filter, etc) it almost always would have a Jiffy Lube sticker on the window.

I'm sure there are techs at many Jiffy Lubes who do a great job, and I'm sure there are techs at great shops that doe a horrible job. But that was just my experience from witnessing thousands of oil changes over a few years.

If you received the High Performance supplement (ZL1, ZLE, etc.), yes. If you specifically intend to track your car, yes.

I have never and never will use Jiffy Lube or any fast lube place. Many, many years ago (mid-80's maybe?), a friend of mine took his pristine 1970 Chevelle SS to a Jiffy lube for oil change and diff fluid. Well, all looked ok, he started his car and drove off. Went only a few miles (on a highway) and the rear end seized, wheels locked, tore the axle and suspension apart and totally wiped out the rear quarters!

Enormous damage! Why? They never put the plug back in the pumpkin! So the fluid was coming out until BOOM!!!! He never saw it coming.

He spent years in litigation and never really got reimbursed. Car would never be the same all because of a nice "cheap and quick" fluid service. Such a waste to save a few bucks and a little time.

So, in my mind after that, it is always STAY AWAY from places like that!

oil change

i think back in the day those fast lube places would screw up..but now they dont lift the cars..(jiffy lube) so the techs are under the cars...there are some horror stories of camaros on this forum as well that were damaged by dealer techs not putting the car on the lift right...but whatever you feel comfortable with and who does it right...peace...

I don't trust dealerships either. I do it myself (safest bet!) or go to my usual guy that has been working our vehicles for almost 2 decades. Great shop, reliable, and they will let me hang around (not to hover, but observe) and they treat every single car like it was their own.

So yes, find someone you trust, whoever it is, hard to find very trustworthy places that actually know what they are doing. If you find one, keep it!

if you aren't tracking, just wait until 3-5k. There is no reason to do it any sooner.

There's also no reason to wait. There's nothing at all wrong with doing a first oil change at 500 and/or 1500 and changing the diff fluid at 1500 as well. Get the initial filings out of the oils and refresh with clean fluids. These cars seemingly do not have any additives that are specific for break-in like some cars, so leaving it in longer doesn't bring any specific benefits.

I bought my car new in May 2019 and had put 2,500 miles on it by October, which is when I usually put all my cars away for winter storage. So, that is when I did my first oil change, I took it to my local dealership, where a very good friend of mine is the tech that works exclusively on my cars when they are brought in for service. I had two free oil changes with my year, so I will use them up and then proceed to do my own oil changes after that, every 3,000 miles as I do with all my vehicles. My vehicles that I put away for storage, the oil is changed every October, regardless of miles because I usually do not reach 3,000 miles in a year with them and I want fresh, new oil in them while they sit over the winter and not letting the old oil with moisture and contaminants remain in them. I will have just about 3,500 -4,000 miles on the Camaro by the time I put it away this year and when I have the dealership perform my last free oil change and have them change the diff fluid as well. Then it is a full tank of 93 octane with Marine Sta-Bil 360, set it on the flatstoppers until next spring. Man, where did the summer go.

I'm right there with ya. I do the same. Oil change just before I put the car away for the winter - add a full tank of gas and some sta-bil. 6-7 months later I get it out, another oil change for the spring/summer. Repeat process. I put around 3500 miles on it during the warm months. Sadly, I will have the car for another month and a half or so before I put it away again.

I didn't get my Camaro (yet), but plan on the first OCI around 1,500 miles. Then at 5,000 and following the OLM after that.

oil should be changed twice a year regardless of mileage.

I did my diff at 1500 and what surprised me the most was how bad it already looked. I did my SUV at 75k and felt like it was a waste of time but might even do the Camaro again as I’m getting close to 3600 miles just to see how it looks again.
