1st oil change
So for those of you who are OCD like me when should I get my first oil change? I’m totally fine not waiting that first 3 to 5000 miles because I want to do what’s best for my new Camaro. Right now she only has 300 miles on her!

I go at 3000 miles (every 3000) regardless of what vehicle. It gets somebody under it to see what is going on and alert me of anything that needs fixed.
The exception was the dry sump system in my C7. That was 500 for the first.

I did 1,000 miles for first oil change. Then changed at 5k miles, and change every 5k miles now.

On my new 2SS I did my first oil change at 500 and the second at 1,500 miles... I did them myself so it was only the cost of the oil and a filter... I used Mobil 1 0W-40 ESP Formula...
I also drained and filled the Differential both times as well...

oil change
got my first oil change at 1000 miles...word of wise, take your oil changes to jiffy lube or anywhere else unless the dealer really knows what they are doing...if they do not put camaro on lift correctly they will slightly push in the door rockers...design flaw from GM..at least at jiffy lube they roll the car on top of the tech where they drain the oil from the bottom of a trench so the car is not on lifts...just my two cents...

I would wait until 1500 to 3000 miles to do the first oil change.Your engine will be okay! That’s my advice but you do what you feel you need to do.

To please my OCD demon, I change the oil on new cars at 1,500 miles or les in case there are excessive wear particles, EVEN THOUGH ENGINES ARE RUN IN AT THE FACTORY.
But after that, I follow the recommended interval or oil life meter. |

I burnt through my 2 free changes at 1,500 and 5,000 I believe. Then I use the Oil Life Monitor (OLM).

I did my 1st oil change at 750 miles. Was it necessary? Probably not, but if I showed you what the factory oil looked like at just 750 miles, you would call me a liar and tell me the oil had at least 5000 miles on it. Never seen oil so black with just 750 miles. For what it's worth, my break in had several heat cycles where the engine was held between 3,000-3500 rpm for extended periods in an attempt to get those rings seated correctly.

I do not, and will not, track my car. Still, I followed the recommendations for first fluid changes based on if I were to track my car.
I targeted my first oil change for 500 miles and completed it at about 625 miles. I targeted my second oil change for around 1500 miles / +1000 miles from the first oil change and completed it at about 1650. I also did a drain and fill on the rear diff fluid during this oil change. For my first oil change, I used Mobil 1 dexos1 5W-30 with the Mobil 1 oil filter. Cost me about $55 for everything. For the second oil change, and for future oil changes, I have switched to Kirkland Signature 5W-30 dexos1 and the Mobil 1 oil filter. Cost is now about $35. I have zero reason or incentive to run 0W-40 in my car as it will never see the track and GM specifically states that 5W-30 is acceptable for street use. I bought four quarts of the AC Delco diff fluid at about $22/quart. It takes somewhere in the 1.2-1.5 quart range and seems to vary slightly based on exactly how much you're able to get drained out of the differential (my car was nose up slightly which also 'raised' the fill line a touch). I plan to change the oil each spring, regardless of miles driven since the last oil change and may do the diff fluid at the same time as well. $50/year in fluid maintenance seems more than cheap enough in my book. I will be changing out the transmission fluid as well, likely going to the Tremec fluid, in the hopes of making the shifting even smoother than it already is. |

For just normal driving around or commuting I thought I was OCD at changing the oil for the first time at 2500 miles on a brand new car. If I were racing the car or tracking it I would change it sooner- although I don't think I would be tracking it that soon and let it break in first. After the first one I do it at around 4K miles or 6 months- which is still probably OCD.
