No doubt!

... but it does seem the people that track their cars tend to be more down to earth, true car guys and gals that break their respective stereotypes. Havent figured out exactly why yet. It might be as simple as spending time in real life with people with the other brands and everyone having the time of their life out on the track together and then talking about their cars together in paddock.

Again agreed. I still occasionally run with my local BMW CCA club and they get more excited when they see other brands besides BMWs that show up to events. Super nice people down earth people. Even the ones that show up with Porsches.

Most of the brands that are luxury oriented have absolute snobs for fanboys.

I would actually guess that on average the hate from the BMW crowd is worse than the Porsche crowd. More people from the latter tend to be extremely wealthy and probably own lots of different cars. BMW fanboys wish they had a Porsche and get even more defensive over their purchases because they could only afford the BMW.

Then there's the GTR crowd that think they have the best car ever made. The way they talk about AWD traction being mandatory in a car really shows that most of them can't drive and just want the car to do it for them.

If money were no object I'd likely get another Porsche. Perhaps I will in a few years, but I'm definitely keeping the ZL1 for good.

This is true. There's a HUGE difference in attitude between people who buy luxury brand vehicles for the performance and those who buy for the image.

While the are not on the same planet in performance to purchase price, they are on the same planet when it comes to performance to cost of ownership.

Gt4 and spyder have very little depreciation. Probably the slowest depreciating $100k new car that money can buy.

There are plenty of smart enthusiasts out there who could care less what the vehicle costs to purchase and care mostly about cost of ownership. You just need the money to be able to do that. But....Thats why they have the money to do that.

Everybody that buys thing based on monthly payment = moron
Everybody that buys things based on purchase price = average iq
Everybody that buys things based on purchase price + ownership cost - sale price = smart

Or you could call them poor, middle class, and rich instead of stupid and smart
If you don't drive the car, yes, the Porsche will keep its value well.

But you know what they say about not driving and keeping the mileage low for resale...

Also, since we are on the topic of ownership, I fail to see how Porsche is somehow cheaper to maintain than a Camaro, even if you don't drive it often. Parts and labour will both be more expensive. Insurance will also be more expensive for the more expensive car.

And really, if we are talking about depreciation, anyone who buys new is an idiot.

Porsche has nothing on Tesla in this regard.

NOTHING.

I was parked by a GT4 at my last event, and he was in my run group. Funny, we talked about other cars we tracked, talked about tires, other tracks we've been to, and track etiquette in our group, but we never talked about our cars ...LOL. I was faster than him... but was most likely his very worn tires.

Trust me I know on the Tesla front from friends that have them. It's different than the Porsche attitude, but agreed just as annoying etc.

That's because Tesla fanboys aren't car enthusiasts. They're far more like a cult.

With or without the 40 gallons of water in the doors (and under rear seat apparently) and the 30+ pounds of dirt that collect in the rear bumper?

Let them keep collecting excess crap in the body and when the car weighs as much as a semi, gets half the range and has no acceleration anymore, they'll figure it out....lol

The Tesla issues boggle the mind......

Even then, only as long as certain conditions are met. You can't take a Tesla out for a whole day exploring back roads without planning the whole thing around stopping at superchargers.

Agreed with both, hence the eye roll. Not to mention driver engagement and cornering etc.

Like others, I think anyone with an expensive car at an AutoX/tracking event is pretty chill for the most part. We are all there to have fun, not to show off whose car is more expensive.

There is one on another forum I go to and we all joke that he is hired by oil companies so we all hate EVs. Because seriously, I don't have anything against an EV in some applications(predictable commutes), but his fanboyism is annoying AF.

Supposedly the Model Y has a lot of issues when people took deliveries. The whole "made in tents" thing is here to stay, it seems.
