I’ve seen my fair share of shadyness on both sides of the fence. The engine coulda dropped or popped a valve too. Maybe the engine did ingest coolant for some reason. We could also say the OP should have taken it to his performance shop instead of the dealer. Should have been there with the tech at the dealership to watch. Or should have been more concerned when after 45 minutes or and hour his vehicle still wasn’t done. Shoulda, coulda, woulda. The suspense is great in this one that’s for sure. |

I hope to you guys I’m not coming across as argumentative. It’s not like that. Agree with everything said her pretty much. But I have also seen engines not filled with oil and failure very soon after. That’s all.
Heres some comedy relief for us. Although for myself it was pissing me off. As I mentioned I worked with a guy who failed to fill the managers wife’s car with oil and not far the engine gave. This guy now works at the dealer where I bought my car. The guy is a great guy and when he heard I was buying the car he made sure nobody touched it. Cool. When my street rims and rubber arrived he mounted the first tire on the rim and sent me a picture. Note: they don’t let this guy do mechanical work anymore. Just PDI”s. Notice anything in the picture?

Really is a tough situation.
The likelihood that the tech didn't replace the oil, or left the oil plug out, is pretty slim. Even more so that they would've put coolant in the crankcase. Could it happen, sure, but the probability is pretty small. Could the techs have had some "fun" with the car? Maybe, but I would be almost certain that they wouldn't have done anything the owner hasn't done a hundred times. Revving, maybe a quick run down the road? However, think about this, that is the kind of stuff that gets people fired. Coolant out of the tailpipe? Sure, if there was a leak, or failure in the intercooler somewhere, that just happened to give it up right there. Coolant goes into the intake, fills a cylinder, some gets out before the exhaust valve closes and then the cylinder hydro locks on compression stroke. If it hadn't of happened in the shop bay, it would've happened on the way home. All I can say is this. If, and this is just an 'if', the owner knew there was an issue and is now using this as a chance to get that issue fixed on someone else's dime, shame on him. If he gets his way, there will be someone or someone(s) out of a job causing misery in their lives, for no good reason or fault of their own. Or, if the techs at the dealership, really did screw up, and the dealership is trying to duck the heat. In that case, shame on them for trying to put it on the owner, causing misery in his life. I don’t trust the dealer to change my oil.

The term hydrolock is used when so much fluid is ingested into a cylinder the motor locks and damage has or could have been done. Like if you drove thru a deep water and "hydrolocked" the motor. Air is compressible fluids are not.
This is not the same as running an engine with out oil until the point of damage or locked up. I cant ever remember ever hearing of a motor hydrolocked from a blow head gasket. Not saying it cant happen but to me the failure would be the head cracked. Something with the dealer doesn't make any sense.
