Yeah, I’ve read the marketing material. I was witness to an engine failure on a 2018 SS 1LE using 0W40 ESP during a track day at NCM. Was it the oil? Who know for sure, but he and I will both switch to Mobile 1 15W50 for track days.

Good news - GM replaced his engine.

Thanks for sharing this, I'll definitely listen to you and not risk the engine when it comes to that (especially since I no longer have a warranty, oh well).

Oil changes are easy and inexpensive (relatively) so it’s really not worth the risk. I installed a stahlbus drain system for the frequency of changes and absolutely love it.

15W50 is not available in Dexos2 BTW.

No it's not. Only required for the ZL1 1LE.

15w-50 is only suggested if you can't get the dexos2 oil.

LS/LT 1LE, SS 1LE, and ZL1

Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets the dexos2 specification.
If this oil is not available, the following oils can be used as an alternative: Valvoline SYNPOWER MST 5W-40 or Mobil1 15W-50.
If 15W-50 is used, the engine oil must be changed after the track event.

For LS/LT 1LE, add 0.9 L (1.0 qt) of oil over the nominal fill level for a track event.
After the competitive driving, remove the excess oil so that the level on the dipstick is not above the upper mark that shows the proper operating range.
During track usage, do not follow the Engine Oil Life System status.Change the engine oil after four hours of accumulative track usage.

If 15W-50 oil is used, it must be changed back to the engine oil isted in the“Engine Oil”section oft he owner’s manual.

ZL1 1LE Only Change the engine oil to Mobil1 15W-50.
Change the engine oil after four hours of accumulative track usage. After track usage, the oil must be changed back to the engine oil listed in the “Engine Oil” section of the owner’s manual.

(Also, one of the advertised features of the new 0W40 is that one can run the same oil on the street and for light track duty, so I'm not 100% sure changes are solely related to emissions, but my knowledge of motor oils is very limited.)
Well understand that with the components and tolerances in today's engines, the demands in these engines for the zinc and phosphorus has gone down.

Nowadays these bearings are bi-metal (aluminum bronze) which are substantially harder than try-metal style bearings. I honestly think one could run a bottom basement synthetic oil of pretty much any brand and it will have good life.

If you run a Dexos oil all will be ok - I would consider something with more film strength if running road coarse events or boosted applications (I use 10-40 Mobil 1)

So..... what’s the difference in engines between a ZL1 and ZLE for track duty? I know you can cut and paste, but what does logic tell you?

So...we are skipping right past the part where you are wrong?

Logic tells me the difference is intention.

GM assumes a ZL1 will be driven differently than a ZL1 1LE over it’s life span.
