Street racing should always be avoided...unless your opponent is a willing member of law enforcement.
Which yes, I've had happen in no fewer that 2 occasions. But then again I'm in Wyoming, it's still pretty much the wild west out here. Completly empty stretches of roads of all kinds for as far as the eye can see.

I put my car in performance shift mode by fast tapping the pedal really quickly.

I mean hows everybody racing there 6gen auto Camaros are we downshifting with the paddle shifters and takeing oof That’s how I race with my fifth GEN but the car feels so much faster when performance shift is activated and feels so much slower when I drop it in second and takeoff with the paddle shifters and when you downshift with the paddle shifters sometimes the car automatically go back and drive while you’re lining up so somebody told me to drop it into gear with my gear stick and either shift from there or throw it into drive soon as you takeoff and she’ll shift herself what’s the best way the car feels fastest when performing shift is activated and you just can’t really line up like that sometimes it comes on sometimes it don’t I know it’s activated when you put the pedal to the floor even for a half a second but it also goes back into Drive while lining up please help losing races

Exactly that’s when the car feels it’s fastest but When lining up it deactivates it’s not reliable I don’t understand why does it feel faster like that instead of you downshifting yourself in to 2nd Gear when taking off

I would bump the shift lever to the left (manual mode), pull back and hold for 2 sec, which will drop you into optimal gear. Then, once your ready, bump the lever back to auto and punch it.

This thread reminds me why I dropped the A8 and got a M6. Too much tapping and searching for gears. With a manual, shift to second go WOT as fast as you can without breaking the rear end loose and be ready to hit third gear in about a second.

Whenever I need power- to pass someone- or in this case to roll race on a track or strip, I manually down shift to get the car in the power band where torque peaks, HP is building, etc. This varies on the engine. For turbo cars it's where you want the turbo to be spooling. Once in the power band with the RPM where I want it I floor it and either shift it manually (to red line or near red line) or put it back in drive after your floor it and let the car do the shifting. I do pretty much the same thing in a manual transmission car, except of course there is not option to put it back in drive. It you elect not to down shift manually in an auto car you will lose that second or split second that it's take the transmission to down shift. In the case of a turbo car (Like my current GTI with 6.5K red line) I will down shift to about 3K RPM, then floor it. In my V6 manual Camaro I will do the same- down shift to 3K or 3.5K RPM, floor it, let it rev to almost 7K, shift, then red line it again. This method has always worked well for me on any car or truck and needs to especially be done on turbo cars so that the turbo is spooled and drawing in maximum air before you punch it.

This is a serious thread resurrection.
There's two ways to effectively do this: Quickly stab the throttle to enable Performance Shift mode -- IMHO, this is the best way to roll race. Race starts, floor it and let the General shift for you. OR Hold the left paddle and the car will downshift to the lowest gear it can. When the race starts, floor it and immediately put it back into D and let the General shift for you. Manually shifting the car WILL result in slower shifts and therefore slower times. When flat out, the A8 does great. When cruising, the A8 does great. When you're somewhere in the middle, that's where it's a little funky. But roll racing the A8 is fine if you adhere to the two aforementioned techniques.

I roll race a couple times a year at the Street Car Takeover. We roll from under the tower to the Xmas Tree. So roll off in 1st in the manual mode and just up shift to 2nd pretty quickly then run up to about that 40mph speed and hold that till the tree, then WOT and immediately slap it over to auto and let it shift out and it won't miss a beat. Took me to the finals last year without an issue at 146 mph plus thru the traps.
