Thanks for the comments guys.

I have read about all the differences in all the modes and wanted to see what other guys like and why. Not really looking for suggestions on what to use per se, as I plan to try them all.

I definitely understand leaving it on to help prevent spinouts/walls/loss of control...

I just wanted to hear about others experiences.

Does the sophisticated PTM add/subtract to/from the driving experience for you?

All of my previous cars have had pretty rudimentary TC/Stability systems when it comes to track days. I'm excited to try out all the different modes just to see how the car behaves. I can definitely see how a lot of people will be consistently quicker with PTM of some sort.

What do you like TrackClub?

It depends on the track, your experience there, how much run off there is and how hard you plan to run.

If you know the track, and there is run off, turn it off and give it try.

I personally like the PTM modes and I use them. I try to run where I don’t feel them. When I do fell them, I know I over cooked something. I think it’s a great tool to use to learn the car and a track.

if you drive smoothly, Sport 1 will not slow you down. Intervention is minimal and I've spun in Sport 1 on cold tires.

Firstly, some great responses from the community!

To me the PTM enriches the driving experience, as it provides very linear and effective choice of driving aids, all designed with track duty in mind. Not many cars offer this level of sophistication, right up to what many current race cars use with pro drivers.

I found it of value to really study the GM engineer's comments. Such as using PTM Sport1 when carrying passangers. Or Sport2 when tires get greasy. Etc.

Ive tested all modes myself and like PTM Race as it helps me as a driver to manage tire overslip on exits, while leaving it all up to me in entry and mid corner phases. Also, i had no issues adopting the auto rev match, or no lift upshits as additional driver aids. To me they all enriched my driving experience and made me faster (and safer) by reducing my workload and improving my focus.
I had driven my other two track cars in a "purist" fashion, but do enjoy having the extra tech in the Camaro.

Ive also adopted the GM engineer's rule of using PTM Sport 1 when carrying passengers at venues with potential consequences. Just in case my talent runs out, or i get distracted by chit chat. But it also depends who sits next to me and for what purpose (for example i run full Race mode during any couching sessions, which i try to get at least a couple of times per season, as first hand feedback is invaluable, even from peers).

Whatever mode you land on, keep in mind that any of it can be defeated if a car is sufficiently over driven, especially with 650/650 power. Take your time to warm up the tires, always focus on feeling the car's grip at all corners, etc. Understand *fully* what (and why) the car may do if pushed too hard in any given corner phase of *every* corner and anticipate it by making proactive corrections to keep the car balanced, happy and fast. Smooth is fast, but smooth does not mean a sleepy and inactive driver. It is impossible to be on a car's grip limit and be inactive as a driver. Just like it is impossible to be on a car's limit yet never exceed it. That's where PTM can really shine imo.

If somebody experiences a near spin, or massive understeer once per session, it means their skill level is lacking and they should dial the mode back. Plus stop, ask for extra instruction and learn what they should be doing better as a driver. This is not to be confused with a car exceeding limits from time to time and the driver successfully correcting the balance while not missing a beat pace wise. But that takes tons of seat time to achieve effectively and safely as it needs to be done subconsciously (extremely difficult, if not outright impossible to achieve if only tracking a few days per season). If one still thinks vs feels while on track: dial it back.

That's where PTM Sport1 shines for those of us that only track a few days per season, or wish to have an extra (albeit most relaxed) sucurity from Stabilitrak. Beyond it, the remaining PTM choices jump to a significantly different level, especially given that in GM design, when you turn off Stabilitrak it is truly and completely off (unlike some other marques). In my experience sport 2 has retarded ignition slightly (not perceptible) by going over curbing/track imperfections when it wasn't at all required. This did affect my lap time slightly due to a loss of a few mph at the next corners braking point.

Good comment and indeed Sport2 does have a more intrusive/less forgiving TC calibration vs Race.
I believe it was mainly designed to handle greasy/overcooked tires.

Track drive mode and PTM in RACE for trackdays and Track drive mode with all off for autocross.

I've found Sport 2 to be way to invasive. I would tell at my, "come on gitty up"
I runned race for 30+ days and now feel as its holding me back. Guess I'll find out this spring.

I'm at about the same experience level as you with my SS 1LE, between 15 & 20 HPDEs in the past 3 years. I quickly moved from PTM sport 1 to sport 2. Once I was comfortable with that I switched to PTM Race and haven't looked back. When learning a new track I may start in sport 2 but will wait no longer than one session before going back to RACE. I haven't driven a ZL1 on track yet but hope to trade up to one soon. If I do, I'll follow the same method: start in sport modes while learning the car and get more aggressive as I get more comfortable with the car.
