M6 car no AFM - QUESTION

Does anyone know if the M6 cars have the AFM lifters? I know it is not functional but was curious about the lifters in my car.

2017 2SS M6.

Thanks!
Ernie

Can't say for sure but since the LT4s do I would imagine the LT1s do as well. If i'm wrong i'm sure there will be several people on here soon to quickly let me know, lol.
A couple of threads from a quick search. Beware, as there is a lot of misinformation and reading comprehension fails in them.

I'm curious about this as well. I know the manuals in the 5th gen didn't have them, but the LS3 and the L99 were two different engines.

2017 2SS M6.

Thanks!

All LT1 and LT4's, regardless of vehicle (C7, CTS-V, and Camaros) have all the AFM hardware (lifters, LOMA [Lifter Oil Management Assembly]), etc. However, the M6 LT1 Camaro's and all LT4 Camaro's do not have wiring nor programming to the LOMA, so, AFM is not active in those.

The only LT-style V8's that don't have the AFM stuff in it is the LT5 ZR1 engine and the new 6.6L L8T HD gas engine.

The AFM hardware is there in the M6 LT1s but not functional. Probably done as a cost savings to GM to build just one engine for the Camaro. Now so far as I know the LT4s don’t have AFM because of the supercharger which I could be wrong but some threads posted say it doesn’t have AFM. And also when you buy a new ZL1 or ZL1 1LE you pay a gas guzzler tax which the SS doesn’t have!

Z06 has AFM, so LT4 has the hardware, just not active on the ZL1.

LT4 CTS-V's also have AFM active as I mentioned.

I think you got the answer above.

I'm not worried about reliability since it seems a great majority of AFM failures occur when switching between collapsed & extended positions (mistimed actuations). Since our cars never ask for it to change states, it seems it might be almost as reliable as a regular solid lifter.

Pity we have to rip them out to put cams in, though.

All gen 5 LTx engines have the AFM hardware. Only the new L8T 6.6 in the HD trucks doesn't.

Just the other day I was thinking how cool it would be for GM to put a new 6.6L in something like a ZR2. Just skip the 5.3L or even the 6.2L and go for the 6.6L for cool points. (And torque) Then I started wondering whether or not the 6.6L uses AFM seeing as how it's a motor for a work truck. Now that I have that answered I think it's an even better idea.

AFM(DOD) is for the birds. GM should be ashamed for putting these lifters which are a known reliability compromise in motors that don't even use the system.

Agreed...AFM on a V8 is the biggest fail ever. Especially when OEM's offer smaller displacement engines for fuel saving options. All that added complexity to save 1 lousy mpg.

the 5.3l has no place. the 6.2L gets better mileage and has way more power in the silverados. iv had plenty of both. The only thing is the 5.3l can run on 87 octane.

Thanks for all the info people.
I was hoping for not having the lifters but I do admit if they are never actuated it would seem they should last. Still, hoping to install a cam one day so....

Have a great day!
