However once it got there, it was pretty impressive taking it to just over 7000rpm in the GT. These cars are setup differently and it depends on how u use your car. I do like high rpm setups and wish GM would take the LT1 to 7k. I think a few limitations are AFM internals and the fuel efficiency standards. So for me the answer is yes it holds back just a little on the top end. But based on the video it’s hard to say could have been the driver.
Having owned a 15 I'd totally agree with you there.

The more I see that video, though, the more I feel like the ss driver was timid at high Speeds...

Even his revving at the start of the video was timid.

Totally. He backed out way early every time. The DOHC 5.0 definitely has better top end, but not THAT much better.

Agreed, and I, too, remember the feeling The wickerbill sure didn't help either, but there's no way the Mustang can pull ahead at such a speed diff; if that were legit, its ET would have to be way, way better, which isn't the case.

NASCAR pushrods rev at 10,000 RPM. So it is possible, but with engineering cost is always the main component.

yeah they have to do a lot to make it work, and I'm sure they are torn down quite frequently. I look forward to the day that we can have no cam engines.

Yes I agree but, I can all but guarantee that if we sold as many Camaro’s as we did Mustangs we would have a 7000 RPM 500hp LT1 Z28 by now. It’s all about cost/profit/regulations and not engineering abilities. Like I said earlier AFM and international efficiency standards are a big hinderance for high rpm applications for the LT1. I’m not asking for a NASCAR motor from GM, I just used that example to illustrate how pushrod motors can achieve higher rpms. However I’d sure as hell would want a COPO setup for the 2020 models.

basic lsx motors are and have been revving 7k+ rpm, using factory stock bottom ends with an upgraded camshaft and valvetrain. it’s not voodoo or terribly expensive, honestly. a gen v motor can do the same with a few key parts swapped out.

Yes I know that I have a 1970 LT1 that I built and I get over 7k outta it sometimes. So add the original SBC to your list also.

The 5.0s have always had good top end. But after watching this vid....imo the Camaro driver baled once the speeds got pretty high.
